How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

If the selected option isn`t “plain paper”, then the printer may stop printing duplex. Simply changing this option back to “plain paper” will allow the printer to print on both sides of the paper.
Click Print Quality Tools, and then select Align or Align Printheads. If prompted by the software or printer control panel to scan the Alignment Page, follow the instructions on the page to complete the alignment.
Doing a printer test page will uncover and pinpoint possible causes as to why the device stopped printing. It can identify a clogged printhead and alignment problem and help match color replication as well. By identifying an issue through this test, you can resolve the problem faster, preventing it from becoming worse.
What is auto duplex printing? Auto duplex printing simply means that your printer can automatically print on both sides of your paper. Many newer printers feature this function. Some older models, however, require you to manually flip the pages so they can be printed on both sides.
Double printing can occur for several possible reasons including an improperly seated ink tank, a misaligned print head, and a dirty encoder stip.
Click Page Layout > Margins > Custom Margins. In the Page Setup dialog box, under Center on page, select Horizontally and Vertically. This will center the sheet on the page when you print.
The paper size and orientation settings must match the paper you`re using in your printer. Besides that, check that the paper is completely blank before printing. Low ink levels and a problematic printer driver or connection can cause the same problems, as the printer can`t complete the job after finishing half a page.
Print head alignment corrects the installation positions of the print head and improves deviated colors and lines. This machine supports two head alignment methods: automatic head alignment and manual head alignment.
Choose File > Print. In the Page Handling area of the Print dialog box, make sure that Auto-Rotate and Center is selected. (This option is selected by default.) Click OK to print.
Change mode in printer settings

Open the Control Panel and then the Devices and Printers option. Find your printer in the Devices and Printers window and right-click the icon with your mouse. In the menu that appears, select Printing Preferences and find the option for Orientation in the preferences window.

1-Sided Print prints on one side of the media. Use this option when printing on transparencies, envelopes, labels, or other media that cannot be printed on both sides. 2-Sided Print prints the job on both sides of the paper to allow binding on the long edge of the paper.
Click File > Print. Under Settings, click One page per sheet, and then choose Multiple copies per sheet in the list. Enter the number copies you want on a sheet (even if it`s only 1), in the Copies of each page box.
Test pages often include text, graphics, and images that, when printed, aim to maintain the health of your printer (and cartridges) while highlighting any issues that your printer may be having.
8.5×11 does not proportionately scale up to be 11×17. Also, images may lose quality when increased in size.
Go into properties and select “Landscape and “Tabloid” or “11×17”. Then, under “Page Scaling”, select “Multiple Pages Per Sheet”. You might have to change “Pages per Sheet” to Custom.

You can use the Fit to Page printing function when you want to print, for example, a Letter-size document on another size paper. Fit to Page printing automatically fits images or text you want to print to the paper size you select in the printer software, or it allows you to manually resize the image.
Pages Per Sheet printing allows you to print two or four pages on single sheets of paper.
One side of the leaf is one page, and the other side is another page. So if you opt for single-sided printing, one side counts as one page. If you select double-sided printing (i.e. you want your work printed on the front and back of a single leaf), then that will count as two pages or two sides.
Reverse printing, also known as negative printing, is where only the background is printed. The natural colour of the tape is left exposed to form text and graphics. For example, in the above image (top left), a naturally white packing tape has been blanketed with black ink.
Printing on both sides of paper is called duplex printing. Most printers offer the option of automatically printing on both sides of a sheet of paper (automatic duplex printing). Other printers provide instructions so that you can manually reinsert pages to print the second side (manual duplex printing).
Collate means to collect and assemble printed sheets of paper within a predetermined order or sequence. Typically, all the pages in the document will print once. Once complete, the machine will repeat the process by printing a second set. This continues until the requested number of document sets is complete.
The overlapping occurs when a text field is not wide enough for the text it contains, causing the text to automatically scroll below the first word. The second word is invisible on the electronic copy, but is visible when printed. To remedy this, you can expand the text field by dragging the handles on the field.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.

Prints blank pages, won't print from computer
ANSWER : Don’t know why you replaced the fuser, but assuming you had print before, then it must have been something you did during the procedure. Only thing I can suggest is to recheck your work. Just because you reinstalled a connector doesn’t mean that it is seated firmly enough to work. Any flat ribbon connectors that you removed and reinstalled, check to see that the contacts are all flat and not peeled back.

lexmark C544 prints yellow streaks
ANSWER : Are the streaks repeating defects or does it run top-down on the right or left side of the paper ?If you have a vertical yellow shade on the paper, it’s probaly the yellow developer unit which causes the problem. You then can either replace the developer only or (depending on the total number of pages printed, check the statistics !) the complete imaging kit which consists of all four developers and the imaging basket with the Photoconductors. If you see a repeating defect, you should at first print out the print defects page (menue\reports\print defects). Compare the yellow streaks with the printed scales. Above the scales it tells you which component should be changed.
