A 52 error code is related to a failure of the laser scanner, the device writes the image to the drum unit in the printer before the toner is transferred to the drum. If powering off and leaving off for a few minutes does not clear the error then most likely the scanner is dead.
Solution 1: Install the correct driver for your device

The Code 52 error is mainly caused by the incorrectly signed driver file installed on your computer. You can replace it with the correct driver to fix the error. Your device manufacturer keeps updating drivers.

Replace the dc controller. In most Laserjets, a 52 error means the scanner motor is rotating at the wrong speed or not at all. In the case of the 5000 and 5100, it can also mean the scanner shutter failed to open because a lever in the printer was not actuated due to a missing toner cartridge fin.
Check the cabling carefully, you may have damaged the Flat flexible cable that plugs into the scanner or pinched the wires that run across the front of the scanner. Also the codes are usually 52.
Recommended action. Turn the printer off, wait 15 seconds and turn the printer back on (using the power switch located on the back of the printer). The error code should not appear again.
The message “Unable to Print 52” will appear on the display for one of the following reasons: i. A foreign object, such as a paper clip or ripped piece of paper, is stuck in the machine; ii.
52.00 is laser error, there is nothing end user can do, the printer needs to be professionally serviced. The possible solutions are: Turn the device off, and then turn the device on. Reseat the connectors between the laser/scanner and the DCC, (DC controller), (J801 and J321).

ANSWER : Sometimes turning off and on will allow you to print a few pages. The error is a beam detect error. The only real fix is to replace the laser scanner unit. Could be a loose connector on the scanner or DC controller from the scanner. That’s unlikely. ANSWER : I have never seen that problem. Really bizarre. I have to say that I’ve never replaced a main motor in any printer that I can remember and we’re talking thousands of them. I would suggest that if you have a voltmeter that you check the main motor contacts during the warm up procedure and see if they are indeed getting any voltage and go from there. If there is voltage, it’s the motor. If not, then most likely the controller board. If you don’t have a meter, it’s cheaper to buy one than start buying parts for the printer.
