LaserJet 5M doesn't recognize Postscript

Not all printers are PostScript printers. However, all printers use a printer driver to translate digital documents created by software into an image that the printer can print. Another page description language is Printer Control Language (PCL), which is used in many small home and office printers.

Check cables or wireless connection

Make sure that the printer`s USB cable is properly connected from the printer to your PC. If your USB isn`t recognized, see Automatically diagnose and fix Windows USB problems. Check the wireless connection (for wireless printers).

Check all cable connections (including the power cord) on the printer side. If the printer does have power and you`ve properly connected the communication cable, but the printer is still not recognized, try switching to a different USB port on the PC.

PCL is device dependent which means that it uses the printer hardware to perform its duties. On the other hand, PostScript is device independent which means that it performs its function without needing any hardware support.

Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions. Restore Wi-Fi setup mode. Most printers with a touchscreen display or menu: Open the Wireless or Setup menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.

Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
