How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

The following are the top reasons why paper jams occur:

unsupported paper/media is used. incorrect paper settings in the tray and/or the print driver. paper loaded incorrectly and/or paper edge guides not adjusted properly in the tray. humidity and/or paper condition and storage.

The message `Fuser Error` or `Self-Diagnostic` means either the fuser has reached the maximum temperature allowed or there has been an error in detection of the correct temperature during specific times of the printing process.
This error might display if the fuser temperature becomes too hot. Follow these steps to turn off the printer and allow the fuser to cool before printing again. Press the Power button to turn off the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
If your printer keeps jamming, you should know that the most common cause of a jam is misalignment of the paper. Paper needs to load in smoothly, completely flush with the tray. Overfilling the tray is a great way to ensure you will be spending some personal time getting to know the inside of a printer.
The fuser unit or fuser is a critical part of any laser printer. Using pressure and heat, it fuses the toner powder onto the page to create a print, and without it, the printer cannot operate.
Fuser Units

The coating wears off and causes the toner to not fuse properly. There are replacement rollers and sleeves on the market that you can replace and turn a non-functional fuser into a good working one. Rebuilding fuser assemblies is not a new thing.

A fuser unit is a pair of heated rollers within the printer that fuses the toner onto the paper being printed on. Toner particles are pulled to the paper to create the desired text and images as the paper passes the imaging drum.
The message “Fuser Kit Low” or “Fuser Kit Very Low” on your HP Color LaserJet M553 series printer is a warning that you have reached the recommended number of prints for your fuser assembly. (The fuser assembly is the consumable part in your printer which heats up and bonds toner to the paper.
Sometimes a paper jam error persists even though there is no jammed paper (false paper jam). Reset the printer, which might clear a false paper jam error, and then try to print again. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Paper Jams

This is a common laser printer problem. Primary causes include grime, dust, worn rollers, or incorrect paper weight. The most basic way to prevent paper jams is simply through regular cleaning of your printer. Also, replace parts as needed.

The fuser unit must be replaced every 100,000 pages, usually along with the transfer belt and feed rollers as part of a maintenance kit. The error code 010-351 indicates that the fuser has reached 75,000 pages and as a result has 25% life or less remaining.
Printing made easy with an HP Fuser Kit

It lets you print up to 150,000 pages of dynamic quality before you need to replace it.

Low-quality paper leaves an accumulation of tiny paper bits often referred to as “paper dust” inside the machine. This “dust” is one of the top causes of paper jams. More dust means more jams. Besides jams, the dust also contributes to poor-quality prints and causes machine parts to wear at a faster rate.
Worn or dirty rollers can decrease friction and increase jams. Check the rollers for wear and gently clean them with a mild soap solution. If the paper is fed into the equipment at an angle or skewed in some way, you can end up with crooked folds or paper jams.
Did you know most copier paper jams are caused by the paper itself? Misaligned paper. When a stack of paper isn`t aligned properly in the machine, it often causes a paper jam issue. When adding a ream of paper, always fan the paper, load carefully and avoid overstuffing the tray.

13.01.00 "jam in tray …" error message
ANSWER : I have never seen that problem. Really bizarre. I have to say that I’ve never replaced a main motor in any printer that I can remember and we’re talking thousands of them. I would suggest that if you have a voltmeter that you check the main motor contacts during the warm up procedure and see if they are indeed getting any voltage and go from there. If there is voltage, it’s the motor. If not, then most likely the controller board. If you don’t have a meter, it’s cheaper to buy one than start buying parts for the printer.
