Check for phone line connection issues that might cause fax receiving to fail. Confirm the fax cords are in the correct ports: The phone line should be connected to the 1-LINE port and the answering machine, if used, should be connected to the 2-EXT port on the back of the printer.

To test a fax machine simply fax to somebody else with a fax machine – and have them send a reply fax back to you. When sending the fax, turn on the confirmation page feature – a successful confirmation page shows that the fax machine on the other end has successfully received the message.

Receiving a Fax

If the machine is set to automatically answer the phone line, when the fax rings it will automatically receive the fax and print it off.

In most computer-based web browsers, to open menus used to clear your cache, cookies, and history, press Ctrl-Shift-Delete (Windows) or Command-Shift-Delete (Mac).

Open the document tray, and then the Control Panel. Wipe dirt off the machine using a slightly damp clean cloth. Clean the white bar and the glass cover. Check Cables and Printer USB Ports

Receiving Faxes

If you do need to receive faxes, you`ll have to sign up for a paid service. The service will need to establish a dedicated phone number for your fax line, and that costs money. RingCentral, MyFax, and many other services will do this if you pay.

A possible reason the faxes you send may be blurry is if you`re receiving image-heavy documents. Because most fax machines aren`t equipped to handle printing images, you`ll want to send high-resolution color faxes in order to eliminate the blur.

Typically faxes take 30-60 seconds to transmit when scanned in the recommended format of black & white at 200-300 DPI (dots per inch) resolution.

The fax detection feature detects whether an inbound call is from a fax machine. If the inbound call is from a fax machine, the call is rerouted appropriately.
