Reasons why your HP printer has ink but won`t print

This may seem obvious, but it sometimes happens: first make sure your paper tray has paper in it. Misalignment, clogged printheads, faulty data communication or insufficient ink levels can also be sources of the problem.

Check ink levels in Windows

Turn on the printer. Search Windows for your printer model name, and then click the printer name in the list of results. Estimated ink levels display on the HP Printer Assistant home screen.

If you look at the back door cover of the printer there is a label that has your model number serial number and also includes the date of manufactuer. Hope this helps. Most HP serials begin with letters, have several numbers in the middle, and end with another group of letters. The year of manufacture will appear in the middle of the number as four consecutive digits. If you purchased your computer new, look for the year you purchased it.
HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4535 does use the HP 664 ink cartridges.
Click the start menu and search for `Devices and Printers`. Select devices and printers in the search bar. This will allow you to see the printers connected to the computer. Click the printer you want to check, and you`ll see the ink levels at the bottom of the devices and printers section.
Ink cartridges can dry out over time. If they are sitting in your machine for an extended period, they will eventually dry up and become unusable. The simplest way to combat this problem is by printing more frequently or running regular cleans and ink tests to ensure the nozzles remain clean.
Open the Printer Driver Setup Window through the Start Menu. Select Settings, then Devices and finally, Printing Preferences from the menu. Then, click the Maintenance tab and click View Printer Status. This will bring up a window that details the full status of your printer and its ink levels.
The short answer is YES. Printer ink expires. Ink cartridges can usually last two or three years if properly packaged and stored. But in a standard case, they will eventually dry out and become useless after this period.
What`s the average lifespan of a printer? The average lifespan of a printer is around 3-5 years. With proper upkeep and maintenance, some printers can last longer, but eventually your machine will need an upgrade.
Dates are commonly found on the side of the printer cartridge or on the side of the cartridge box. Like food expiration dates, cartridge expiration dates should be taken with a grain of salt.

HP deskjet 460 Waste ink tank full
ANSWER : I worked fixing printers for 5 years for Verizon and some of the older printers were notorious for the waste receptacle filling and overflowing with ink. My solution was good old warm water. Remove the waste container and scoop out as much as you can with a small screwdriver, wiping the discard on a paper towel, then just run warm water from the faucet into the container till all the residue is removed. This is just water soluble ink folks, if you want to test it, scoop out a glob and dissolve it in warm water, its easy as pie. I never once bought a new ink discard reservoir. I just cleaned out my mobile 460 printer reservoir by the same method. There are no electrical connections its just all plastic.
