How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

An image drum is a critical component of a laser printer that transfers toner and image or text to paper. It`s also known as the image unit, drum unit, or photoreceptor drum, among other things.
There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used, number of pages per print job and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 12,000 pages.
You should replace it when your image quality declines and does not improve even after changing your toner. Or simply replace your drum when your printer notifies you to do so. When the replace drum light or message comes on, your printer might stop working without much notice.
Separate drum units last quite a bit longer than a toner cartridge and typically should be replaced after the use of 3-4 toners. Your printer should inform you when it`s time to replace the drum, but you can usually tell your drum is on it`s last legs if you start to see black spots or lines across the page.
You`ll know the drum is dirty if you notice that the print quality has become blurry and features blank spots or oddly-colored spots despite having full toner cartridges. Horizontal lines across the printout when the paper passes over a dirty area are another sign that it`s time for some maintenance.
This way, every time you replace the toner cartridge, you are replacing the image drum. Brother toner cartridges however do not and so you`ll need to replace the drum unit separately. The duration that the drum lasts really depends on the printer. Some last 10,000 pages while other last 25,000.
Buying extra drums for your office laser printer saves money and time, but the components do have a shelf life. Shelf life is a period of time the components can be stored and still be suitable for use. A laser printer drum`s shelf life is approximately two years if the drum is still in its protective bag.
An image drum is the image carrier or imaging device used in some non-impact methods of printing. The image being printed is created on the surface of the image drum, which then transfers toner onto the substrate in the correct position to form the final printed image.
The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called “The photosensitive drum” inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
For cleaning, HP recommends using HP Equipment Cleaning Wipes, but you can use an HP-approved lint-free wipe and deionized or distilled water. Note: If dark spots appear on back side of prints, clean drum screen. Note: If minilab prints more than 2000 prints each day, clean drum screen up to twice daily.

A degraded drum unit can cause streaks, smudges, and blank spots on your printed page even if you just inserted a new printer toner. While a broken drum unit won`t break your printer, it will just fail to stop printing at a certain point.
An image drum is a vital part of a laser printer that is responsible for transferring the toner and image or text to paper. It has several different names, it`s also called the imaging unit, drum unit or photoreceptor drum.
An imaging drum is an essential part in the operation of your modern laser printer. Along with the toner and roller, the imaging drum helps finalize the ink-to-paper process, receiving the image or text and then transferring it to paper.
