To make an ICC profile for a colour device you need a profiling package. This normally includes a measurement instrument, a test target, and a software program which can read the measurements and generate the profile. For an output device (display or printer) colour patches are displayed or printed and then measured.
There are a couple scenarios which can cause an invalid ICC profile error to occur while profiling your monitor. The most common scenario is a profile name which includes illegal characters such as slashes or punctuation characters. The ICC naming convention is much more ridged than what your computer will allow.
ICC profiles act as a translation between the source set of colours in the digital image and the destination on screen or in print, the latter using different profiles for specific printers, inks and papers. It takes you from what you`ve got, to what you want.”
According to the International Color Consortium (ICC,) ICC profile is a set of data that characterizes a color input or output device. The profiles typically describe the color attributes of a particular device by defining the mapping between the device source and a profile connection space.
On all Windows Operating Systems, the profiles are located: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. If you cannot find your profile in the default location, try a search for *. icc or *.

The only ICC Profile you should use is the one that matches your paper and printer combination. If the paper you use doesn`t have an ICC Profile for your printer, switch to a different paper that does. The only other alternative is to have a bespoke profile created.
Every device that outputs color or displays color is capable of having its own ICC profile. Since every device displays/outputs color differently, a standard was set by the International Color Consortium (ICC). With this standard, devices that are originally far from accurate can be profiled to match.
When designing for a printed format, the best color profile to use is CMYK, which uses the base colors of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (or Black).
An ICC profile (ie file with . icc or . icm extension) can be considered as the `colorimetric identity card` of a peripheral and will adjust the unique way a paper should be printed on a specific printer.
A colour profile (or ICC profile*) is a piece of software code that ensures precise and consistent colour management by describing the range of colours that a specific device can input or output, such as a scanner, monitor or printer.
The ICC Profile metadata block defines how to adjust the picture`s coloring. When an ICC Profile is applied, the “red” seen on one monitor will look the same as the red on another monitor and as close as possible to the same color when the picture is printed.

However, the CMYK profiles are safe to delete, as few people outside of professional printers, have need for CMYK profiles.
The downloaded ICC profile should be stored in a specific file from your operating system, so that the printing software can make use of it.

The ICC profile describes the color attributes of a particular device or viewing requirement by defining a mapping between the source or target color space and a profile connection space (PCS). The ICC defines the specification precisely but does not define algorithms or processing details.
