The Selectric mechanism was notable for using internal mechanical binary coding and two mechanical digital-to-analog converters, called whiffletree linkages, to select the character to be typed.

The final model, the Selectric III, was sold in the 1980s with more advanced word processing capabilities and a 96-character printing element. But as personal computers and daisy-wheel printers began to dominate, the Selectric brand was retired in 1986.
A typewriting mechanism for a typewriter machine in which mechanism a swingable hammer bracket supporting a typewheel having a number of types formed on the surface of the typewheel, is driven by a single rotary magnet without being disconnected from a type-character selecting mechanism so that the typewheel strikes …
IBM`s Executive typewriters introduced a feature lacking in many mechanical typewriters: the top row included the digits “one” and “zero”; other typewriters generally omitted these. The IBM design obviated substitutions taught by many typing instructors: the letter “o” or “O” for “zero”, and lowercase “l” for “one”.
A regular dimension is a collection of hierarchies and levels that describe one aspect of a measure, such as Customer or Product. This type of dimension can contain one or more hierarchies. A hierarchy uses levels to describe the relationship and order of dimension attributes.
IBM also built the Selectric Composer that used a wild, manual justification system to create camera-ready type on a machine that, at the time, cost the equivalent of $30,000 in US dollars. A real, electronic Selectric word processer cost $150,000.
Before the IBM Selectric, the only way to change a typewriter`s font and type size was to buy a new typewriter. The Selectric`s type balls made changing fonts a snap. The ball spun and titled to imprint different letters, with a binary code for each character controlling tilt and rotation.

Donate Old Typewriters to a Typewriter Repair Shop

If you have more than one or two typewriters to dispose of, a typewriter repair shop might be interested in taking one — or all — of your machines off your hands. A typewriter in any condition is useful for parts and can also be repaired and sold in store.

A significant advance in the typewriter field was the development of the electric typewriter, basically a mechanical typewriter with the typing stroke powered by an electric-motor drive. The typist initiates the key stroke, the carriage motion, and other controls by touching the proper key.
It`s easy to lose track of your thoughts when you`re typing away on a computer. But since manual typewriters don`t have a backspace, they force you to think more carefully about your next words. You`ll be more deliberate with your word choice, take your time on your work, and avoid careless spelling errors.
Electronic typewriter nullified certain drawbacks of the traditional typewriter. The main pros of the electronic typewriter was the possibility of changing content that was once typed. Another advantage was that with minor changes numerous copies can be obtained.
Unlike computers, typewriters translate ideas directly onto paper through an audible rhythm of keys and swinging type-bars. There is no delete function to shroud errors, and a well-edited typescript illustrates a creative process through handwritten notations and corrections typed over in ink.

1320C – loose part into tray
ANSWER : You’re correct in your assumption. Those sensor arms have a peg on each side that pop into slots. I’ve never seen one pop out like that, so have never had to pop one back in. My assumption is if it popped out, you should be able to snap it back in without disassembly. The tricky part would be holding the spring in the correct position when snapping it back in. I would turn the printer on its top so it would be easier than twisting your head around to look up at the procedure.

Print Quality Issue (Streaks and Ghosting)
ANSWER : Streaks are mostly caused by internal drum wiper blades that clean left over toner off the drum to prepare it for a new image. Ghosting is caused by a leftover image on the drum. The 6 inches that you mention would be the circumference of the part that is causing it. Fusers will never cause either problem.
