Tray 2 holds up to 250 sheets of 75 g/m2 paper.
Tray 1 is the small slot in the front for manually feeding paper. The paper cassette which holds the paper and slides out is called tray 2.
✔️On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon (), and then click Devices and Printers. ✔️Right-click your product, and then select Printing Preferences. ✔️From the Printing Preferences menu, select Paper/Quality. ✔️From the Paper Source drop-down menu, select Tray 2.
Improve printer performance by selecting the optimum paper type for the tray. You can select from the following paper types: Tray 1. [Thin Paper], [Thick Paper 1], [Thick Paper 2], [Plain Paper], [Recycled Paper], [Color Paper], [Preprinted], [Prepunched], [Letterhead], [Bond Paper], [Cardstock], [Label Paper]
Double-sided copying options: 1-Sided -> 2-Sided = Your originals are single-sided but you want double-sided copies 2-Sided -> 2-Sided = Your originals are double-sided and you want double-sided copies 2-Sided -> 1-Sided = Your originals are double-sided but you want single-sided copies.
Right-click your printer, and then select Printing Preferences. From the Printing Preferences menu, select Paper/Quality. From the Paper Source drop-down menu, select Tray 2. From the Paper Size drop-down menu, select the appropriate paper size for the print job.
The tray settings determine how the printer manages the paper trays.
Tray protection
This will be used to prevent like paper from being fed if Auto Switching is ON. Press Printer Setup > Tray Settings > Settings > Tray Protection. Choose a tray and press the button to activate this function.
The input tray is the tray on the printer that serves as the paper source. The output bin is a bin on the printer where printed jobs are delivered. Users can use the input-tray and output-bin job attributes to specify a tray name, such as 3-hole and a bin name, such as staple .
Press the “Menu” key, then use the arrows to select “Paper Handling” then “Tray 2 Size”. Since you have A4 loaded, it should show “A4”. If it shows anything other than “A4”, open the tray and adjust the Length and Width guides so that they are set to “A4”, close the tray and check the menu again.
This is related to a printer driver setting known as the mopier mode. When the mopier mode is enabled, a printer can receive one copy of a document, and print multiple collated copies. The number of copies required is specified via a PJL header tag in the spool file.
This mode enables you to print two received documents of the same paper size onto a single sheet of paper.
Sometimes paper can get stuck behind the tray and get stuck in the sensors and arms that detect paper size and detection. You can remove the tray completely from the machine and look at the feed unit and rollers and make sure there is no obstruction or paper stuck.
just GOTO settings > printer properties of your printer > preferences>paper quality >change the paper to A4 size . and restart the printer.

Optional 250 Sheet Feeder Tray (Q5931A – Tray 3) Constantly "Jams"
ANSWER : You don’t say if the paper moves at all. That’s key in determining the cause. If it’s not moving, then try swapping the rollers with tray 2. If it is moving out of the tray, then that would indicate there is some obstruction it is hitting on its way out of the tray. Hard to troubleshoot remotely when one doesn’t have specific details since we can’t see what is occurring.

Paper jam in tray 2 (but no paper pulled from tray) also M476DN models
ANSWER : Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for rubber rollers. It dries out the rubber and hasten it’s cracking and breaking. It will do nothing to restore the grip. Those rollers are really hard to replace. It would be easy if that dumbass secondary menu really worked. None of the techs I’ve spoke to ever got into it. Everyone I know sends a print job and listens for the roller to rotate into position where you can pull it off.

Tray 1 (upper tray) paper feed problem
ANSWER : There is no way of adjusting the distance of lift. Could be that the pickup roller is worn enough that it will pick up a sheet that is higher, but not one that is lower down. You can look at the end of the roller that first makes contact and see if it is worn smooth.

Printer stops pulling paper from tray 2 after a few sheets
ANSWER : Sticking pickup roller solenoid. Pretty easy fix. You need to remove the right side covers. The back one just slides off, but the top holds the front one. I usually just take the 2 right side screws off and gently lift the top enough to pop off the side panel. Open the metal door on the formatter assy. Then release the tab in the middle. There’s also a tab at the front of the panel. When putting it back on, make sure you engage the rocker switch and the metal rod before pushing it into place. When you get it open, you’ll see the solenoid at the bottom front. There’s 1 screw holding it in place. Remove it and take the top plate and spring off. Be careful not to lose the spring. Then scrape off the gooey crap on top and clean off the plate as well. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt in place of the remnants of the disintegrating sponge that HP uses. You can find it at the hardware store used for the bottom of chair legs.
