Why does my HP printer keep saying cartridge problem? Please check and wipe the cartridge contacts. The common cause of the cartridge problem message is the gold contacts found on an electronic chip on the body of the HP cartridge being cloaked with dirt or ink or even because of physical damage.
It`s sound like an ink cartridge issue check the ink levels on your printer and replace the empty or low ink cartridge. If the ink cartridge contacts are dirty, the printer might display an ink cartridge error. CAUTION: Clean the ink cartridges one at a time.
Most commonly “Cartridge Problem” means that your HP printer simply cannot recognise the colour or black ink cartridges. Thankfully however this error message can usually be cleared with some basic troubleshooting.
An HP ink system error can also be caused by low or empty ink or toner cartridges. If you spot an “Ink System Failure” message before discovering the error, then replace the ink or toner cartridge to resolve the problem.
Press the button on the chip-reset tool for several seconds until the LED light on the device goes off. Then, unlock the reset tool from the cartridge. Use the resetter with other cartridges and install them back into the corresponding slots in your printer. Voila!
If your printer is not low on toner and your printouts are still fading, it could be caused by a transfer roller issue or a laser mirror that needs to be cleaned. Blank Spots – Blank spots can be caused by a defective toner cartridge or other issues with the printer, potentially a damaged transfer roller.
For non-internet connected printers – Find the devices and printers section in your control panel, then select your hp printer. Find the cartridge protection tab in the HP toolbox and click the disable cartridge protection option & save.

incompatible ink cartridge message
ANSWER : Pretty much nothing else you can do except try another new cartridge. I had 2 identical HP printers once in the shop. One of them didn’t like one of the cartridges.
