How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Unlike Piezo Electrical Inkjet technology (which pushes the ink out by using mechanical force) the HP Designjet Printheads use thermal technology to push the ink out, together with an integrated circuit which routes signals to the hundreds of ink nozzles providing precision and predictable output.
Essentially the printhead contains an ink chamber, with a piezo electric actuator, made of a material such as Lead Zirconium Titanium (PZT). When an external electrical charge is applied to PZT it changes shape, forcing a drop of ink from the ink chamber and out through the nozzle.
Print head stepper motor – A stepper motor moves the print head assembly (print head and ink cartridges) back and forth across the paper. Some printers have another stepper motor to park the print head assembly when the printer is not in use.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
The printhead lock is a piece of plastic that prevents the printhead from moving towards the left. A common way to unlock it is by turning on the power. As soon as you see the lock moves, you`ll cut the power off.
In Windows, go to Printer Properties > Maintenance > Clean Heads > OK and follow on-screen prompts.
Clean the printheads in Android, iOS (wireless only)

Open the HP Smart app, and then select your printer. Tap your printer, and then tap Print Quality Tools. Next to Clean Printhead, tap Clean. A Printhead cleaning in progress message displays, and the printer prints a Print Quality Diagnostic Page.

Although different brands of cleaning solution will slightly vary when it comes to ingredients and ingredient ratios, they are largely based on the same three components: Distilled water. Isopropyl alcohol. Detergent.
What is a printhead? The answer is simpler than you may imagine. The printhead is a component in a printer that houses ink cartridges. It`s typically located under the cover of your printer, and it can become clogged with ink over time.
A port is an interface channel used for transferring data from the computer to a printer. In order to communicate and print successfully, the port setting in the printer driver software must be set correctly. Some users may receive an error message that indicates an issue with the port settings.
According to the manufacturer specifications, a printhead might print up to 10 million labels. But in reality this could be more. Or less, depending on your actions and settings. The good news is that you can have a positive effect on the lifetime of the printheads yourself.
In contrast to laser printing technology, inkjet printers use pigmented liquid ink which is directed into the print head, this then sprays droplets of ink through tiny nozzles onto the page. These microscopic droplets are precisely arranged to recreate images or text.
If the printheads are built into the printer or plotter, they`re likely to require replacement after long-term use. Most often, if you have determined that your printing issue is not due to lack of ink and have cleaned the printheads, you likely need a printhead replacement.
Changing to Grayscale: How to Trick Your Printer

Hit the print button and scroll to `Printer Properties`. There will be an option labeled `Color` that gives you a choice between color and grayscale. You`ll want to select `Grayscale`.

If ink is not coming out when you perform printing for the first time, it is possible that ink is not flowing into the printer properly. Make sure each ink tank is filled with ink to its upper limit and perform ink flush. If the problem is not resolved yet, the print head may be damaged.
The sponge end of a blocked printer head can be cleaned with only one liquid other than water. This liquid is isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol isn`t strong enough to melt the sponge but is still strong enough to dissolve the ink inside the blocked printer head.
Soak the Printhead

Fill a bowl with warm water (or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the printhead) and place the printhead directly in it. Let it sit for five minutes or so. Pull the printhead out of the water and use a lint-free cloth or paper towel to remove the dried ink.

Print head cleaning uses both color and black ink. To avoid wasting ink, clean the print head only if print quality declines (for example, if the printout is blurry or the color is incorrect or missing).
You`ll know fairly quickly if your printhead is causing you problems. If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead.
A print head scratch occurs when an accumulation of dust or debris gets stuck in your machine. And if this happens, the damage cannot be fixed. In most cases, you would need to purchase a new printhead. That`s why it`s important to keep the dust out, away from your machine.
