How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Smears that appear in addition to otherwise well-formed output may signal toner contamination inside your LaserJet, either from a leaky cartridge or from improperly fused sheets that leave toner residue behind. Smears at the edge of the sheet that enters the printer first point to dirty paper guides.
Horizontal smearing shows that the ink tank`s bottom is clogged with fibers. If you discover a problem like this, remove the cartridges and begin cleaning them. Your ink cartridges may have dried out or the print heads may have become clogged with ink residue if they are older than a year.
The streaks or lines might be caused due to low ink levels in one or both ink cartridges. Check the ink levels using the HP Toolbox to determine if the ink cartridges are low on ink and need to be replaced. note: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only.
Toner Rub Off or Smudging issues occur when toner is improperly or incompletely fused to the paper. This can occur if the incorrect paper is used, paper tray settings are incorrectly configured, or there is an issue with the Fusing unit.
Once they`re ejected, pages from a properly functioning laser printer can`t smear. A laser printer uses a solid material, called toner, to form the page images. Once the toner is stuck to the page inside the printer with an electric charge, the page passes through a special heated roller, called a fuser.
In the context of laminating, ink smear is the degradation of print quality, due to the movement of ink.
The best way to prevent smearing is to make sure you give the ink time to dry before picking up the copy or copies. It doesn`t take long, maybe 10-15 seconds. If that doesn`t work, try changing your printer settings for a lower quality print job. You generally have a choice, Best, Normal or Draft.
Set the print quality setting to higher quality. If you have an HP printer, you want to select HP PHOTO paper for your paper type, when printing on glossy paper. Adjusting your print settings paper type to glossy to match the paper you are printing on typically resolves the ink smearing issue for most people.
If you are experiencing an issue with ink smearing when using a highlighter, confirm the following: – Only plain paper is being used. If photo or glossy paper is used, ink will smear if using a highlighter.
A toner cartridge that is leaking or has leaked inside the machine will need to be replaced. Do not remove the toner cartridge from the Brother machine until you are ready to replace it. Excess toner can be cleaned with a soft, dry, lint free cloth before replacing the cartridge.
Water-based inks contain water-soluble dyes and will smear and run if they get wet again. These water-soluble inks are very user-friendly for beginners, though, as dried ink can easily be removed with a little cleaning effort.
Another important consideration: since laser printers use dry toner, the ink doesn`t bleed or smear, which can be a problem with inkjet printing.
How long does HP toner last? HP toner cartridges can last up to two years in their sealed packaging. Even after two years you may still get some use out of the cartridge, so it may be worth trying even after the fact. Your printer will display a “low cartridge” message when a specific cartridge needs to be replaced.
What Is Smearing? Smearing is the act of pressing the sole of your climbing shoe directly to the rock or slab and using friction to gain vertical ground. Sometimes smearing can be terrifying, as it seems impossible that your feet won`t slip as you grind them into the rock like you`re squashing a bug.
Pigments are naturally UV resistant and are considered archival. The pigments in the ink embed themselves into the fibers of the paper while the carrier liquid evaporates. This property is what makes them smear-resistant and allows them to work excellently on matte paper.
Adhesion testing evaluates the abrasion resistance of ink on a substrate. The testing identifies how the printed ink resists rubbing and scuffing. Abrasion testing is done either manually or mechanically with different sets of tools in a controlled testing environment.
Avoid handling printouts on glossy paper right after printing to allow the ink to set. Turn off any high speed settings in your product software. If you print on both sides of a sheet of paper, smudges may appear on the reverse side of heavily saturated or dark images.
One of the most common reasons why ink smudges or even faded prints occur is defective ink or toner cartridges. Try and check your ink cartridges if they are all still in good condition. Make sure that the ink has not yet dried up and is free from dirt and residue build-up.
