The P1006 is Windows Vista, Windows 7, XP and Mac compatible.
The LaserJet 6P and 6MP were introduced October 1996. They included infrared technology, for wireless printing.
AirPrint: On macOS and OS X, most HP printers work with Apple AirPrint to provide full-quality printing without the need to download or install drivers. HP Customer Support: Drivers and software for your printer might be available from HP Software and Driver Downloads.
As print quality goes down over time, this will be a reason to replace the color printer. We find a black and white printer can sometimes last 10 years or more and most color laser printers are replaced every 3 to 5 years.
Unlike a LaserJet or InkJet printer, a PageWide printhead stays stationary while the paper itself moves across the print head and lays the ink flat across the page. With no moving parts, the paper flies through the device extremely fast—up to about 70 pages a minute!
By default, the P1006 uses its FastRes 600 mode, with a resolution of 600x600dpi.
Connect the printer to the computer either using a USB cable, parallel port cable, or SCSI cable and then connect the power plug to a power outlet. After connecting the printer to the computer, it can be turned on using the power button on the front of the printer.
Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
Most printers these days are Mac-compatible, but we have seen quite a few printers that work better with Windows PCs. The problem here lies in the driver software that controls the printer, which may be different on Macs and PCs.
Most printers are compatible with macOS. When you add a printer, macOS automatically uses AirPrint to connect to the printer. Check with your printer manufacturer to make sure you have the latest printing software for your printer.
If you can`t add the printer because it doesn`t appear in the list of available printers, it may be turned off, or your Mac may be on a different network now. If the printer was shared by another user, the user may have stopped sharing it, or the user`s Mac may be offline.
Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it. Click the Add button . Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer.
For healthier print heads and more efficient ink consumption, however, it`s better to leave your printer on. Constantly switching your printer off and on will decrease your printer`s lifespan, so try to keep the off/on to a minimum.
Inkjet printer cartridges are typically cheaper than laser printer cartridges, but toner (laser printer ink) tends to last longer. Laser printers are ideal if you tend to print mostly text-based documents because they can print text two or even three times faster than most inkjet printers.
In the same way that inkjet and laser printers widely differ in price, cartridge prices for a laser and inkjet printer also widely differ — and for good reason. Laser printer cartridges, also known as toner cartridges, can print significantly more pages than any inkjet cartridge so they are generally more expensive.
