This noise can be due to any one of the following: A piece of paper, or other obstruction, is stuck somewhere inside the printer. One of the toner cartridges or photo developer units may be installed incorrectly or may be damaged. A door or cover may not be closed completely.
A grinding sound is heard when the printer is turned on or when it is printing. Blinking lights may accompany the noise. The problem can be caused by a carriage stall or a paper jam.
A clicking sound may occur if the stirring spring assembly inside the Toner Cartridge catches on a rib within the cartridge, preventing the stirring spring and its gear from turning. The resulting click is caused by the drum`s toner drive gear slipping against the stirring spring gear on the Toner Cartridge.
One common failure part on the HP LaserJet P4014, P4015, and P4515 series is a set of worn plastic gears in the fuser drive assembly. The primary symptom will be a grinding-type noise coming from the rear of the printer.
When a computer fan spins loudly for a long period of time, there might be an issue with a fan, or the computer might be overheating. Adjust the power settings, clean the fan vents, check for suspicious processes, and then update the BIOS to help reduce the internal temperature.
That grinding noise means something is loose inside the hard drive, where there simply shouldn`t be anything loose at all. That typically means that when that thing becomes completely loose, it`s going to go flying around in there and cause all sorts of destruction within the drive itself.

ANSWER : Try this test. Put a page into the manual feeder and do that same test. When the end of the page is just about to enter the printer, open the lid. Take out the toner cartridge and pull back the shutter. Look at the image and see if it is black. The explanation is that there is high voltage going to both the toner cartridge and the charge transfer roller below it. If the image on the drum is black, then the fault is at the transfer roller not getting enough high voltage. The transfer roller pulls the image off of the drum and down onto the paper. It would not be a laser scanner problem as any issue with it would not result in an overall gray image, but combination of gray and black. It will probably turn out to be a bad HV power supply, which will need replacement. I’ve never seen this particular problem on this model.

ANSWER : I would suspect the fixing film has wear. You can prove the theory by doing a half-stop test. This stops the print before it enters the fixing film assembly. Load paper in the drop down MF tray in the front. Send a print job and when the tail end starts to enter, open the cartridge lid on top to stop it. Then remove the toner cartridge and look at the paper. If you see the marks, it is from the toner cartridge. If you don’t, it would be coming from the fixing film since the paper hasn’t entered it.
