How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

If your printer is spitting out pages full of strange characters, symbols, or strange formatting, your inkjet printer drivers may be outdated, incompatible with your operating system or corrupt. Drivers are important to the proper function of your inkjet printer and it is best to check for updates regularly.
Printer Driver

Problems with the driver software that maintains communications among your computer, operating system, applications and printer can produce garbled output. In some cases, the symptoms trace to installing the wrong driver option for your output hardware or OS version.

If your printouts are blurry or smeared, try these solutions: Make sure your paper is not damp, curled, old, or loaded incorrectly in your product. Use a support sheet with special paper, or load special paper one sheet at a time. Make sure your paper meets the specifications for your product.
When printing on paper that is even slightly moist from humidity, ink can become smudged on the paper, colors can run together, and text or images can be distorted. Check if the paper is moist and try replacing the paper in the printer to see if print quality improves.
Usually a quick paper setting adjustment will clear up a ghosting issue right away. Run a cleaning – Most printers have a cleaning function built into the machine. Run this a couple of times to attempt to clear up the printing issue. Inspect the drum – Sometimes excess toner powder can stick to the drum.
Hi Amrit, Gibberish printing occurs when the printer cannot properly interpret the data stream reaching it and prints garbage text and random white space instead of the document expected.
The character fonts may not be embedded. Non-standard font encoding may have been used by the PDF producer. The characters affected may not map properly to unicode. Typically this issue must be resovled back in the authoring file and a new PDF produced.
Garbled characters on printer output pages can indicate a depleted toner cartridge. Ghost images can indicate a depleted toner cartridge.
What problems are indicated if a print job is full of garbled text? The inaccurate printer driver is being used. How does paper quality affect a printer? If the incorrect paper is chosen then problems may occur such as paper jams, ink smudges, or ink not being fused properly to the paper.
Here are the most common causes of a printer printing faded text or images: Low ink or toner levels. Toner sticking to the fuser roller or problems with the transfer roller. Low ink or toner density settings.
Do a hard reset on your printer. To do this you just need to turn off your printer, unplug for a few minutes and then plug the printer again. If that still doesn`t work, try turning the printer and your computer off, and then start it back up again. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling your printer driver.
When you see unreadable gibberish symbols as shown in the screenshot below, you are likely dealing with a corrupted PDF file. More specifically, your PDF document is probably missing important information about font character mapping. The reason for this can be that the document was produced incorrectly.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
Faint, streaky or spotty prints are all common signs of a clog but a simple cleaning can usually get your HP ink cartridges working again. Printheads clog due to infrequent cartridge use. If you regularly go a few weeks without printing, your cartridges will eventually dry out and need to be replaced.

Resetting of chip for hp toner Q6000A
ANSWER : HP Color Laser Jet 1600 – Thanks for all the above information. Even though the 1600 is a different printer, I followed the above: “…go to “System Configuration”; then to “Print Quality”; I then get a choice of “Replace Supplies” and then “Overide Out”…” Selecting “Overide Out” got my 1600 back to printing, although I did have do perform the steps TWICE before it seemed to take affect. Not sure what was going on, but I’m happy that people put the information out there for the rest of us to have.
