HP Color LaserJet CM2320FXI

Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
Had this problem with an HP Color LaserJet 3700dn unit not too long ago. In fact, it was not only doing the random multicolored stripes/bands across the page thing, it was also doing a repetitive palm print-like smudge of black toner on every page. I didn’t want to give up on this printer because on the few occasions in which it printed perfectly, the image quality was stunning and the colors were very impressive.

The streaks or lines might be caused due to low ink levels in one or both ink cartridges. Check the ink levels using the HP Toolbox to determine if the ink cartridges are low on ink and need to be replaced. note: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only.
When your printer leaves black lines, the lines indicate that there are excess toner powders on the rollers or transfer belt within the printer. As the paper is moved along by the rollers and transfer belt, any excess powder left on them can result in lines being left on the paper.
Streaks and unwanted lines could mean that the printer heads are out of alignment. There`s an alignment tool in the printer`s control panel. If that`s not the issue then the printer is dirty. Printer ink stripes may appear along the edges of the paper, which means there`s ink on the rollers and other parts.
Streaking is usually caused by a worn out drum unit or spent toner cartridge. Drum units are a consumable and only need to be replaced after the use of 3 or 4 toners. Not all printers use a separate toner and drum unit.
There are four primary causes for horizontal banding on prints from inkjet printers, (1) nozzle clogs, (2) mis-aligned print heads, (3) low quality print settings (4) incorrect paper thickness settings. Below we will describe each of these causes for horizontal banding as well as ways to try and fix them.
Banding is a defect in inkjet printing that will appear as horizontal or vertical lines, streaks or bands in the printed output. Everyone will eventually experience some type of banding with their inkjet printer.
Double printing can occur for several possible reasons including an improperly seated ink tank, a misaligned print head, and a dirty encoder stip. Select one of the links below to get detailed instructions to address the issue. Check that all ink tanks are seated properly. Refer to Replace an ink tank.
If your printouts have incorrect colors, try these solutions: Make sure the paper type setting matches the paper you loaded. Make sure the Black/Grayscale or Grayscale setting is not selected in your printer software. Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged.
Black, cyan, magenta, or yellow vertical lines or streaks can be caused by a dirty corona wire, a toner cartridge, or the drum unit. To identify if a corona wire, toner cartridge, or the drum unit could be causing the issue, follow the steps below. 1.
The types of line printers are drum printers, band-printers, and chain printers. Other non-impact technologies have also been used, as thermal line printers were popular in the 1970s and 1980s, and some inkjet and laser printers produce output a line or a page at a time.
If your highlights look sloppy or streaky, pull strands away from your head before coloring next time. When you`ve separated the section you want to highlight, then you can apply the dye.
If your printouts are blurry or smeared, try these solutions: Make sure your paper is not damp, curled, old, or loaded incorrectly in your product. Use a support sheet with special paper, or load special paper one sheet at a time. Make sure your paper meets the specifications for your product.
