How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

The Auto-Off or Power Save Mode setting might be enabled. This setting causes the printer to turn completely off after a set period of time (usually two hours). This feature can be disabled through a printer`s software or control panel. Go to HP Customer Support to search for support documentation for your printer.
An industry first, HP Auto-On/Auto-Off technology gives you more control over your energy consumption and ensures that your printing devices are automatically turned on when you need them and off when you don`t.
Click the Device Settings tab. Locate the Auto-Off Console section of the screen. Click the Down Arrow next to the Auto-Off after: drop-down menu, and then select the desired Auto-Off delay time. Do not uncheck Automatically turn off device after inactivity, unless you want to disable Auto-Off mode.
To disable the setting:

Go to General > Energy Settings. Under Sleep Settings, select the Sleep after inactivity checkbox. Enter 15 in the box below. It indicates that the Printer goes to sleep in 15 minutes if there is no activity on the Printer.

For healthier print heads and more efficient ink consumption, however, it`s better to leave your printer on. Constantly switching your printer off and on will decrease your printer`s lifespan, so try to keep the off/on to a minimum.
To keep your printer lasting longer, we recommend leaving your printer on. If it is off for a long period of time or if you turn it on and off again regularly, the printhead inside the printer will dry out faster. When you leave it on, you may hear the printer start up every once in a while and begin to calibrate.
Stop/Start Technology automatically stops and starts the vehicle`s engine under certain conditions. By turning off the engine when not needed, Stop/Start Technology can help improve fuel efficiency, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions (compared to the same vehicle with Stop/Start Technology not in use).
Sleep automatically preserves your open documents and programs in memory and shuts down all nonessential functions. Figure : Software power button.
Sleep shuts down the display and parks the disk drive to prevent damage. Normal shutdowns and startups allow the machine to perform self-tests, clear out the RAM, and alert you to software updates or minor errors.
Printer sleep mode

Check that the printer does not have sleep mode enabled: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click the printer in question, then select Printer Preferences. Look for an option to disable sleep or time-out mode.

What this does is shut down the printer after a set period of inactivity this is done mainly to save electricity. If you go into the setting menu on the printer look for either power settings or it may just have its own page on the menu for Auto-Off and see if that`s enabled.
When leaving printers dormant for months with no printer maintenance or cleaning, dust can gather on print heads or nozzles, or cartridges can become clogged or dry, reducing or stopping ink flow.
Unfortunately, the short answer is: no, you shouldn`t leave your printer unattended in the middle of a project because of safety issues. That may sound unreasonable, but the printer can be a fire hazard and you don`t want to risk returning to a burnt down home or office.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet if you are not going to use the printer for an extended period. Leave the ink cartridges installed. Removing the cartridges can dehydrate the print head and may prevent the printer from printing.
It uses around 10 to 20 watts in standby mode, depending on the brand and model. Even when in sleep mode, the unit still draws power. It may be a measly 1 watt, but the consumption adds up over time.
When you`re driving and your vehicle comes to a complete stop, Stop/Start Technology (if equipped) may turn off your vehicle`s engine. When this happens, the needle on the tachometer will move to the “Auto Stop” position.
Can Engine Start Stop be Turned Off Permanently? While it is not possible to permanently disable this feature, you are still able to disable it. With a normal vehicle, stop-start can be paused by pressing the “A Off” button next to your car`s gear shift.
This mode turns off the power to the operation panel and the fusing unit, and makes the machine wait in the lowest power consumption state. Auto Power Shut-Off Timer will activate when the set duration of time elapses in waiting status without executing a job.
Does stop-start actually save fuel? Yes – in situations where you`re stationary with the engine idling, such as in heavy traffic or waiting for traffic lights to change, it will save however much fuel would have been used by the engine while the car is stationary.
Putting your laptop in sleep mode overnight is also fine if you plan to start work first thing in the morning. Having your laptop go to sleep is also better as some components like the LCD panel, battery, and hard drive have a limited life cycle. So allowing them to sleep when not in use will extend their life.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, it`s recommended that you put your computer into sleep mode if you`re not going to be using it for more than 20 minutes. It`s also recommended that you shut down your computer if you`re not going to use it for more than two hours.
Sleep is not a great option when you don`t have access to a power source. For example, if you`re traveling and your laptop won`t be plugged in for several hours or even a couple of days, Sleep Mode could gradually drain the battery.
Sleep: In sleep mode, the computer enters a low-power state. The computer`s state is kept in memory, but other parts of the computer are shut down and won`t use any power. When you turn on the computer, it snaps back to life quickly—you won`t have to wait for it to boot up.
Your PC hardware – including RAM, motherboard, and battery – doesn`t get much rest during sleep. Therefore, if you want to prolong your device`s hardware life cycle, it is better to shut it down rather than use the sleep settings.
