You unplugg the power cord while the unit is on, and then press and hold the buttons # and 6 while replugging the power cord. Then wait for the printer to display something like reset and follow the prompts.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove USB cable, if present.
Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention light turns on. Release the Resume button. The Attention and Ready lights cycle while the product restores factory defaults.
Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth or swab with distilled water, and then clean the electrical contacts in the carriage. Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry, and then reinsert the cartridge into its color-coded slot. Repeat these steps for the other cartridge if it was indicated in the error message.
Sometimes called a forced reset, this allows you to clear the memory if Windows or other software are unresponsive or if there are problems with the display or the computer. Performing a Hard or Forced Reset on Your HP Notebook (Fixed Battery)
Open the printer`s web page and Sign in as Administrator. On the General tab select Reset Factory Settings in the menu. In the section Reset Firmware select Reset. Select Reset.
You need to ensure your HP printer has enough paper, ink, or toner, and it is not stuck on paper jam. Also, check the status of your printer cartridge and try replacing it with a new one if it is not good enough. In some cases, your HP printer stops printing after you replace its parts.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Resetting of chip for hp toner Q6000A
ANSWER : HP Color Laser Jet 1600 – Thanks for all the above information. Even though the 1600 is a different printer, I followed the above: “…go to “System Configuration”; then to “Print Quality”; I then get a choice of “Replace Supplies” and then “Overide Out”…” Selecting “Overide Out” got my 1600 back to printing, although I did have do perform the steps TWICE before it seemed to take affect. Not sure what was going on, but I’m happy that people put the information out there for the rest of us to have.
