Why does my HP printer keep saying cartridge problem? Please check and wipe the cartridge contacts. The common cause of the cartridge problem message is the gold contacts found on an electronic chip on the body of the HP cartridge being cloaked with dirt or ink or even because of physical damage.
HP printer won`t recognize new ink cartridge:

Restart the machine and it should now work. If not, you may have to clean the cartridge. Some of HP`s newer model laser printers have a setting that only allows original HP toners to be used in the printer. If this is switched on, it will reject all non-original toners.

To fix an HP printer cartridge problem, remove and reinstall the indicated cartridge until it firmly sits into the slot. If all the cartridges are installed properly, press “OK” or “Continue” to clear the message and resume printing.
Verify the ink cartridge(s) is inserted properly. Some cartridges snap in place, and if they are not inserted fully, the printer won`t print anything. If a lever is moved from its original position to allow for installation of ink cartridges, ensure it is returned to its original position.
Your printer may not recognize the new ink cartridge, or the ink counter may read it as empty. Many printers have a cartridge reset feature that forces the machine to recognize the cartridge as new.
If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.
Most commonly “Cartridge Problem” means that your HP printer simply cannot recognise the colour or black ink cartridges. Thankfully however this error message can usually be cleared with some basic troubleshooting.
Press the button on the chip-reset tool for several seconds until the LED light on the device goes off. Then, unlock the reset tool from the cartridge. Use the resetter with other cartridges and install them back into the corresponding slots in your printer. Voila!
You can continue to print with one or more empty cartridges, but HP recommends replacing them as soon as possible to avoid printhead damage.
This error occurs due to the chip on your cartridge still reporting a low or empty ink level from its previous use. The chip itself cannot be reset, so when the cartridge is refilled and then installed into a new machine it will still register as empty.
To improve print quality for an integrated ink cartridge, you may need to clean the nozzle plate and/or rear electrical contacts. Using an isopropyl alcohol dampened lint-free moist cloth, gently blot the nozzle plate until some ink is drawn out and absorbed into the cloth.
The first sign of a faulty cartridge will probably be a visible decline in print quality. You may see ink streaks or blotches, areas where no ink has come out at all, or certain colours may be missing from your print. With some printer makes, the printer will refuse to print with a damaged cartridge.
If the ink level is sufficient, but the printer still does not print black ink, you may need to run a cleaning cycle. A cleaning cycle is a process that cleans the printer heads and removes any clogged or dried ink.
Using an isopropyl alcohol dampened lint-free moist cloth, gently blot the nozzle plate until some ink is drawn out and absorbed into the cloth. Ensure rear electrical (gold) contacts are thoroughly clean of all ink residue and lint fibers. Ensure cartridge is dry before re-installing into printer.

Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly.

If you install a new toner cartridge but the “Toner Low”, “Replace Toner” or “Toner Ended” error indication remains, the toner cartridge may not be installed correctly.

Disable the Cartridge Policy feature

In the bottom navigation pane, select Config, and then select Supplies. In the Cartridge Policy section, select Off. Click Apply.

Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly.

incompatible ink cartridge message
ANSWER : Pretty much nothing else you can do except try another new cartridge. I had 2 identical HP printers once in the shop. One of them didn’t like one of the cartridges. I swapped it over with the other printers cartridge and it was happy. So was the other printer. Swapped the cartridges back and it didn’t like it again. How do you explain that? You don’t.
