Update the Printer Driver
Printer drivers are pieces of software that enable communication between your computer and your printer. The error code 0x00000040 could appear if your printer driver is out-of-date or faulty. Your printer driver may need to be updated in this situation to help with problem resolution.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner. Choose the printer you want, and then select Add Device.
You will receive a prompt telling you to touch the checkmark on your printer display; if your printer does not have a touch screen, press the Information button on the printer. HP Smart will confirm when the printer is connected to the wireless network.
Connect the printer power cord to the printer and turn the printer back on. Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router. Wait 10 seconds before reconnecting it. It may take a few minutes for your internet to come back on.
Sometimes the printer may not be connected to the network, or your computer`s firewall might be blocking the printer. Also, if the printer is shared through another computer on the network, the settings on that computer may need to be modified.
