HP LaserJet 4000
I have an HP 4000 laserjet printer that’s printing fine, but the duplexer makes a loud grinding noise when operating. No problem with duplex printing itself, just the noise. How to I diagnose and fix this?

This noise can be due to any one of the following: A piece of paper, or other obstruction, is stuck somewhere inside the printer. One of the toner cartridges or photo developer units may be installed incorrectly or may be damaged. A door or cover may not be closed completely.
The printer has suction fans to hold the paper flat in the paper path and an exhaust fan for cooling at the rear of the unit. The humming sound can be heard when the fans turn on. The current firmware turns the fans off when the printer is in idle mode.
Filament grinding, which is accompanied by a “clicking” or “squeaking ” sound coming from the extruder, usually happens when the extruder gears are unable to push the filament further towards the nozzle. Over time, the gears grind away the filament, until they can`t grab it anymore.
Grinding noises are associated with rotating parts and rotating systems; any part or system that rotates can cause grinding.
When a computer fan spins loudly for a long period of time, there might be an issue with a fan, or the computer might be overheating. Adjust the power settings, clean the fan vents, check for suspicious processes, and then update the BIOS to help reduce the internal temperature.
Dot matrix printers create noise when the pins or typeface strike the ribbon to the paper, and sound-damping enclosures may have to be used in quiet environments. They can only print lower-resolution graphics, with limited color performance, limited quality, and lower speeds compared to non-impact printers.
Also, impact printers have very high noise levels because they have several moving parts and also the printing head strikes on ribbon and paper. The quality of print produced by an impact printer is very poor than that of a non-impact printer. Impact printers use old printing technologies and they are less expensive.
If you continue to encounter filament grinding, try to increase the extruder temperature by 5-10 degrees so that the plastic flows easier. You can do this by clicking “Edit Process Settings” and selecting the Temperature tab.
Inaccurate bed leveling, low initial layer height, or incorrect Z-offset settings can cause your printer`s nozzle to scrape against the printing bed. It might damage the nozzle and the print bed and restrict the filament from flowing out of the nozzle.
Laser printers are almost always louder than ink printers because they have many more parts in operation at the same time. Even though many of these parts aren`t themselves particularly noisy, the fact that all of them are moving all the time can contribute to a few headaches.
There may be a background whistle or hum from the power-supply. In stand-by mode most designs of printer are likely to be heating the fuser. Because there is a heat source running in the printer they need an air-flow to prevent any localised build-up so there will be the noise of a fan running.
Dot matrix printers are noisy and slow.
Linishers and bench-mounted grinders can produce noise levels of about 88 to 95 dB(A). Hand-held angle grinders can produce noise levels of about 90 to 115 dB(A).
Verb The corn is ground into meal. The steel grinds to a sharp edge. She kept grinding the car`s gears.
If your fan is constantly getting louder, check and clear out dust motes and other debris. With prolonged use, dust builds up inside your computer. Use compressed air to clean up your computer and clear dust from your ports and vents.
It is a type of printer that works by direct contact of an ink ribbon with paper. These printers are typically loud but remain in use today because of their unique ability to function with multipart forms.
Quiet Mode slows down printing to reduce the noise the printer makes when printing. It does not affect print quality. You can turn Quiet Mode on or off from the printer control panel.
The reason your extruder is grinding up your filament can be due to reasons such as bad retraction settings, low temperature & underextrusion issues, damaged PTFE tubing, the feeder tension being too strong or a combination of a number of reasons.
The shelf life of filaments varies depending on several factors, such as the filament type and its method of storage. As we`ve said before, moisture is the number one enemy of filaments, so leaving them exposed can shorten their lifespan. With proper storage and care, you can use your filament for up to 12 months.
Material stringing, missing layers, clicking sounds in your extruder gears, and inconsistent extrusion patterns—specifically thin layers—are all symptoms of a partially clogged nozzle. And if no filament is coming through your extruder onto the build platform, you could be dealing with a fully clogged nozzle.
If you extrude too much plastic, each layer will tend to be slightly thicker than intended. This means that when the nozzle tries to move across each layer, it may drag through some of the excess plastic. Before you look at any other settings, you should make sure that you are not extruding too much plastic.
3D printers can cost anywhere from $300 to $20,000. Using your 3D printer for a side hustle may enable you to earn back a portion of your investment. Methods to earn money with a 3D printer include selling printed models, providing printing services to local businesses, and renting out printing time on your printer.
Here`s our short answer to that: On average, 3D printing an object can take anywhere from 30 minutes up to 12 hours to print. Sometimes, it can even take several days depending on how large and detailed your 3D model is.
