The 41.3 Paper Size error happens when there is a mismatch between what the computer application asks for and what the printer can provide, and/or what the printer sees happening as paper passes through. If the paper takes too short or long a time passing over the printer sensors this error gets raised.

This error has nothing to do with the laser/scanner—it means “unexpected paper size.” The printer measures paper size two ways: The paper cassette has a set of ridges and/or levers usually found on the right side.

41.03 is often caused by paper being set to one size and another sent.

The 41.2 error in the LaserJet 5Si, 8000, 8100 and 8150 is typically caused by high voltage arcing that disrupts the beam detect circuit. The most common cause of arcing is a bad connection to the transfer roller.

If you are seeing the 41.3 error on a LaserJet 4, 4Plus, or 5 series printer, and you find a blank sheet of paper in the path, your printer is probably having a failure with the solenoid on the paper feed assembly. This is becoming a common issue as these printers get older.

In some cases the reason for error code 41.7 is that the rollers grabbing fresh paper are not sticky enough any more. In this case I used spray for climbing skins (e.g. colltex) to make them stickier again, and the problem was resolved.

Damage or corruption of the printer drivers installed on the system can also cause “Printer not activated, error code 41. Users experiencing this issue need to completely remove the printer drivers installed on the system using the device manager and then reinstall the printer drivers.

The error may occur when there is a communication issue between the formatter and the scanner. Turn the printer off and then back on to clear the error message. note: Performing this action will remove all custom configurations, settings, and files.

That error code translates to a tray 2 feed where the paper was detected as too long or too short. As tray 1 prints fine, you can rule out any sensor in the path that the manual feed takes.

Typically, the 41.08 error occurs when the printer “hangs” during the time when “processing job” appears on the control panel. The printer usually rotates up and down repeatedly; it may eventually complete the print job, but usually requires cycling the power to resume operation.

A 42 or Toner Cartridge Region Mismatch error indicates that the installed toner cartridge is manufactured for a different geographic region than the printer. The printer and the toner cartridge each have a certain geographical code tagged to them, much like the coding on DVD players and DVDs.

The error you are getting suggests you were trying to print from the manual tray (tray 1). You need to examine the rollers for tray 1 and clean with a damp, lint free cloth and then dry. DO NOT use any chemicals, only water to dampen the cloth.

Sometimes, simply restarting both your computer and printer can be the solution to the “printer in error state” issue. Power off your printer and computer completely, leaving them in this state for a few minutes, then turn them on again to see if the problem is gone.

The warning “The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first” is associated with the event 41 kernel power, which indicates that something unexpected occurred that prevented Windows from going off properly. The system could experience this error if it abruptly crashed, stopped responding, or lost power.

ANSWER : Sometimes turning off and on will allow you to print a few pages. The error is a beam detect error. The only real fix is to replace the laser scanner unit. Could be a loose connector on the scanner or DC controller from the scanner. That’s unlikely. You could try the only other free fix which is to open the scanner assy. and clean all the mirrors inside. The dust could obstruct the laser beam enough to cause the detect error.
