If the “Scanner error 2” keeps coming back, you should replace the flatbed scanner assembly. The “Scanner error 2” usually triggers when the scanner`s drive motor fails. Fortunately, replacing the flatbed scanner assembly is not considered difficult.
The drum unit is an electrically charged cylinder that fuses that toner powder onto paper to create text and images. Both of these components are essential for producing a print.
You can refresh the drum to improve print quality if streaks or white spots appear on printed images. Consult your service representative before using this function.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor on your Windows computer to help diagnose and fix printing and scanning issues. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor, and then follow the prompts to install and open the tool.

Use an activated toner cloth, stretched tautly, and carefully wipe down the drum exterior to remove loose toner. Then use a cotton ball saturated with 99% pure isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Clean any patches of stubborn toner still attached to the drum. Use toner cloth or lint-free microfiber to clean the print rollers.
What is the drum unit? The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called “The photosensitive drum” inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
Turn off your printer and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug your printer back in, and then turn the printer back on.
An image drum is a vital part of a laser printer that is responsible for transferring the toner and image or text to paper. It has several different names, it`s also called the imaging unit, drum unit or photoreceptor drum.
Toner is the powder ink that latches on to the paper to create text and images. It is stored in the toner cartridge. An image drum is the unit that copies the text and images from the computer and then transfers them to the paper, along with the toner.
Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention light turns on. Release the Resume button. The Attention and Ready lights cycle while the product restores factory defaults.
The reset() method will reset the value of the scanner`s delimiter to the default whitespace delimiter regardless of whether it was previously changed. A scanning operation may block waiting for input.
The message Drum End Soon indicates the drum unit will need to be replaced soon. Even when the LCD or the status monitor displays the message Drum End Soon, you can still continue to print.
Step Three: Cleaning

After you have removed the chunks of toner, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Carefully wipe off any dirty areas visible on the drum. If the drum unit is dirty, apply some rubbing alcohol onto your lint-free cloth and carefully wipe the body of the drum unit.

The most obvious is most common on laser color printers and can be detected by a flashing message on the printer display screen. Other signs of a bad printer drum include printing blank pages, printing gray pages and strange sounds coming from the printer as it prints.
The drum rolls the toner onto the paper in the form of your print. The toner is melted & pressed onto the paper by heat from a fuser as it passes through its rollers. Your print comes out of the printer.
Laser printers use a single drum, but may have more than one toner cartridge. Monochrome models use only black toner, and color laser printers have four cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. When used in combination, the printer produces all colors, hues and shades of gray.
Clearing fax memory by printing a fax job

Print received fax(es). Fax memory will automatically be erased.

You can send a test fax to the HP Fax Test Service at 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). This free service sends a return fax within 5 to 7 minutes when fax is working properly. Your fax number must match the number you entered in the fax header to receive the return fax.
The reset key is a single use key and once used cannot be used again. All EPSON printers have inbuilt counters that count up the number of pages a printer produces, the number of head cleans executed and various other attributes. Once a critical level is reached the printer will enter its service mode.
Toner Save Mode allows the printer to use less toner on each page.
Pour a quart of white vinegar into the wash drum with a cup of baking soda. Use a stiff nylon brush and vinegar to scrub the interior of the wash drum. At the hottest temperature setting, run a wash cycle with this cleaning solution in an empty washer; select the heavy-duty wash cycle if available.
You can refresh the drum to improve print quality if streaks or white spots appear on printed images. Consult your service representative before using this function.
An image drum is the image carrier or imaging device used in some non-impact methods of printing. The image being printed is created on the surface of the image drum, which then transfers toner onto the substrate in the correct position to form the final printed image.

Even though the 1600 is a different printer, I followed the above: “…go to “System Configuration”; then to “Print Quality”; I then get a choice of “Replace Supplies” and then “Overide Out”…” Selecting “Overide Out” got my 1600 back to printing, although I did have do perform the steps TWICE before it seemed to take affect.
