A 49 error typically occurs when the printer attempts to perform an action that the firmware is not capable of performing or might not be designed to handle, for example: Printing files that include unsupported printer commands. Interfacing with a third-party solution that was not designed to work with the printer.
In general, a 49 service error is a situation where the printer cannot process a file that has been sent. In some cases the file is corrupted and in other cases the printer`s firmware simply cannot interpret that file.
It is most likely caused by a print job, so the first thing you need to do is to delete any jobs in your print queue. One way to determine if its a job is to power off the printer disconnect whatever cable you have it connected to the outside world by and then power it back on and see if you still get the message.
The 409 error indicates that there is a delay in updating the status of the printer to our server, and this is not a printer issue. The issue is most likely that the printer is currently running a print, or there is a print job stuck in the queue (even though the printer may not be printing at the moment).

The problem was a combination of an incompatible print file in the print queue that caused the printer to display the 49 service error and then immediately re-start–a vicious loop with a short re-cycle time.

ANSWER : It seems like it might be a 4240 board. The 4240 was pretty much the same printer, but sold for $200 less. The downside is that it wouldn’t accept the 42X cartridges.

What repair needs to be done for a "50 needs repair" message on an HP Laserjet IIIP?
ANSWER : I don’t know what you mean by good toner cartridges. They haven’t been built in about 10 years, so if they are new OEMs in the box, they are guaranteed to fail. The 50 error on that printer is mostly a burned out fuser lamp. This site was sold, so as you can see, there are no more kits available.
