Smears and smudges on the paper can be caused by dirt, dust, or toner accumulated on the rollers or transfer belt as it passes through the paper. Cleaning your printer, particularly the rollers, is one of the options for removing black markings from paper.
Smears that appear in addition to otherwise well-formed output may signal toner contamination inside your LaserJet, either from a leaky cartridge or from improperly fused sheets that leave toner residue behind. Smears at the edge of the sheet that enters the printer first point to dirty paper guides.
What Causes Smudges When Printing? Black lines and smudges on your document may indicate that your printer is dirty. Dirt, dust, or toner accumulated on the rollers or transfer belt can cause smears and smudges on the paper as it goes through the paper.
In printing, the term “Bleed” means that the ink coverage extends all the way to the edge of the paper. To illustrate, look at the business card shown as Example 1. The ink on this card Bleeds on three sides – left, right and bottom. This is because the ink is touching these three edges of the business card.
Ink cartridges that have been sitting idle in your machine for more than a couple weeks will eventually dry out. You might be able to bring them back to life by running a cleaning on your machine, but if the pattern continues, you will eventually be placing an order for a set of replacement cartridges.
When your printer leaves black lines, the lines indicate that there are excess toner powders on the rollers or transfer belt within the printer. As the paper is moved along by the rollers and transfer belt, any excess powder left on them can result in lines being left on the paper.
Golden Archival Spray Varnish is another good choice for protecting pen and ink artwork. This archival varnish is available in Gloss, Satin and Matte. Like Lascaux UV Protect, Golden Archival Spray Varnish can also be used with other media.
The best way to prevent smearing is to make sure you give the ink time to dry before picking up the copy or copies. It doesn`t take long, maybe 10-15 seconds. If that doesn`t work, try changing your printer settings for a lower quality print job. You generally have a choice, Best, Normal or Draft.
Laser Printers

The fuser melts the toner onto the paper at temperatures as high as 400 degrees so that it is unlikely to melt off the paper in the future. Laser prints smudge if your printer`s fuser operates at a lower than ideal temperature. Fuser temperatures can frequently be adjusted to solve this problem.

Tape. Tape is another good way to lift color, including smudges, off paper. It works best on traditional drawing papers like Stonehenge. And it`s easy to use!
Smudging occurs when the ink moves and accumulates powder on the print heads and on the material. Smudging and bleeding can occur in any flexo printing process, but most commonly on rotary and cylinder presses. One common cause of bleeding and smudging in flexo printing is poor ink or material quality.
When should I choose full bleed printing? If your design has a white background, then you do not need to choose full bleed printing. Choose full bleed printing whenever you need the design to extend to the edge of the sheet. Your file will always need to be designed properly for full bleed printing.
Can home printers print in full bleed? In practical terms, no printing equipment can actually print all the way to the edge of a sheet of paper– not your home printer, or a professional machine.
Sponge rubbing alcohol into the stain.

Pour rubbing alcohol onto another paper towel and use it to sponge around and directly on the stain. If the towel underneath the stain becomes too stained, remove and replace it with a clean one and continue to sponge until no more ink is being removed from the garment.

Faint, streaky or spotty prints are all common signs of a clog but a simple cleaning can usually get your HP ink cartridges working again. Printheads clog due to infrequent cartridge use. If you regularly go a few weeks without printing, your cartridges will eventually dry out and need to be replaced.
Streaks and unwanted lines could mean that the printer heads are out of alignment. There`s an alignment tool in the printer`s control panel. If that`s not the issue then the printer is dirty. Printer ink stripes may appear along the edges of the paper, which means there`s ink on the rollers and other parts.

HP Laserjet 2200, Tray 2 Pickup Problem, Gears Clicking
ANSWER : Definitely not a solenoid problem. I’ve worked on tens of thousands of printers and never replaced a single solenoid. You probably knocked something loose when you installed the pickup roller. Maybe something to do with the gear on the end of the pickup roller shaft. You’ll need to take the gear assembly off to be able to see it.
