How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :
The most common cause of this problem is that the bottom margin, footer margin, or page border is outside the printable area of the page. All printers have an irreducible unprintable area necessitated by the mechanical requirements of paper handling.
Right-click your product, and then select Printing Preferences. From the Printing Preferences menu, select Paper/Quality. From the Paper Source drop-down menu, select Tray 2.
Tray 1 is the small slot in the front for manually feeding paper. The paper cassette which holds the paper and slides out is called tray 2.
If your printouts are faint or have gaps, try these solutions: Clean the print head. The ink cartridges may be old or low on ink, and you may need to replace them. Make sure the paper type setting matches the type of paper you loaded.
If your document is in Print Layout view and the top and bottom margins appear to be cut off, the option for hiding margins has been switched on. Here`s how to switch it off: Point to the top or bottom of a page until the pointer becomes a double-pointed arrow, and then double-click.
To specify a tray within MS Word the user must: Click File and then Print. In the Print Dialogue click Page Setup. In the Page Setup window click on the Paper tab.
The tray settings determine how the printer manages the paper trays.
HP Printer Paper Tray Lock A Paper tray lock is used to prevent the tray from accidental use. The lock is used in printers that contain multiple trays. It is mainly used in printers while inserting special papers into the input tray.
Improve printer performance by selecting the optimum paper type for the tray. You can select from the following paper types: Tray 1. [Thin Paper], [Thick Paper 1], [Thick Paper 2], [Plain Paper], [Recycled Paper], [Color Paper], [Preprinted], [Prepunched], [Letterhead], [Bond Paper], [Cardstock], [Label Paper]
The bypass tray, also known as the multi-purpose tray or general-purpose tray, is a tray on your copier that can be used to print jobs on media that cannot be run from the main trays of your device.
> Setup the right margins as paper size margins. > Use Scale to Fit to avoid cutting page head or bottom part off.
Take one of the following steps: Look under Indents and Spacing for the Line Spacing box and set it to something different than Exactly. For example, change it to Single. Change the At setting to a different setting that is slightly larger than the font point size you are using in your document.

Click Margins, or navigate to the screen to change the page format and adjust margins. Increase the top and bottom margins to a minimum of 13 mm (0.5″). You might need to increase this amount slightly if the issue is not resolved the first time.

Paper jam in tray 2 (but no paper pulled from tray) also M476DN models
ANSWER : Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for rubber rollers. It dries out the rubber and hasten it’s cracking and breaking. It will do nothing to restore the grip. Those rollers are really hard to replace. It would be easy if that dumbass secondary menu really worked. None of the techs I’ve spoke to ever got into it. Everyone I know sends a print job and listens for the roller to rotate into position where you can pull it off.

Tray 1 (upper tray) paper feed problem
ANSWER : There is no way of adjusting the distance of lift. Could be that the pickup roller is worn enough that it will pick up a sheet that is higher, but not one that is lower down. You can look at the end of the roller that first makes contact and see if it is worn smooth.

13.20 Paper Jam "Open input trays, then open and close top cover"
ANSWER : Usually, it’s a scrap of paper stuck where the paper comes up out of the tray and takes the bend up into the printer. With the trays out, tilt the printer backwards and look up into the slot. You can usually see the paper stuck in the slot. If not, then take the cartridge out and lift up the flap at the front and look down there.

Paper tray 3
ANSWER : What usually happens in this instance is that the access flap to the left of the pickup roller pops up. This blocks the tray from opening. The only way to fix it is to look in from the back of the tray with a flashlight and get something thin and long, maybe a wooden ruler? Reach in and push down on the flap until it locks in place. If you’re not sure what I’m referring to, you can pull out and look at tray 2 for guidance.
