The Cause of Clogs

Printheads clog because nozzles get blocked by either air or ink. Clogs usually happen when: You keep printing with depleted ink cartridges. Using empty ink cartridges can result in air bubbles that can clog your cartridge and/or printhead.

Your Epson printer may have failed to recognize the new ink cartridge, or its ink level system has read it as empty. For numerous Epson printer models, there`s a way to bypass this built-in ink checking system through a quick cartridge reset. Raise the printer`s top cover and then hold the Ink button.
If the printer has been printing continuously for a long time, the Print Head Holder may not move to the center since the Print Head may overheat. Opening the Top Cover while printing moves the Print Head Holder to the right. Close the Top Cover, and reopen it after printing finishes.
Empty ink or toner cartridges that need replacing. Ink or toner cartridges that have become dislodged from their proper place. The wrong paper size loaded in the input tray. Clogged printer head nozzles causing a build-up of blocked ink or toner.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. You`ve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
To find out which cartridge requires replacing, see Using the printer`s control panel, or check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). Caution: Do not move the print head by hand, as this may damage the printer. Always press the ink cartridge replacement button to move it.
Printer cartridges can be replaced on an as needed basis! If one cartridge is running low, you do not have to replace the other colors at the same time. However, you do need to have all of the printer cartridges installed in the printer for it to work.
Using warm water and the syringe, slowly flush the inside of the ink cartridge out. Be careful not to force too much water too fast into the cartridge or you will get ink everywhere.
