How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

When the low ink warning appears, press and hold the STOP/RESET or RESUME button on the printer for 10 seconds. This button will flash with an orange light when the warning pops up, so it will be relatively easy to find.
When the printer asks you to disable detection, press and hold the Stop button for at least 5 seconds before releasing it. On that color, ink level detection will now be disabled. It will be your obligation to periodically check the cartridges and refill them well before they are empty.
A window may also appear on your computer screen when you try to print when ink is low. To disable the low ink reminder window, right-click the printer icon in the task bar and select Monitoring Preferences. Then uncheck the Enable Low Ink Reminder checkbox at the bottom of the screen to deselect it.
Click on Print Server Properties (in the “toolbar” area above the list of devices). Click on the Advanced Tab. For a local printer: Uncheck “Show Informational notifications for local printers”.
This is typically caused by an incorrect selection made during the LCD prompting after a cartridge is replaced or the lock release lever did not snap securely over the ink cartridge when installing.
This error occurs due to the chip on your cartridge still reporting a low or empty ink level from its previous use. The chip itself cannot be reset, so when the cartridge is refilled and then installed into a new machine it will still register as empty.
If you do not have a new toner cartridge at hand and need printing before obtaining it, you can continue printing about 20 pages(*1) by opening and closing the front cover or the output tray. Print quality is not guaranteed.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. You`ve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
This is typically caused by an incorrect selection made during the LCD prompting after a cartridge is replaced or the lock release lever did not snap securely over the ink cartridge when installing.
This error message is usually the result of a cartridge that is not firmly seated in its designated slot. To troubleshoot the problem, begin by completely removing the cartridge from its port. Reinstall the cartridge by positioning it so that it snaps into place and is securely fastened in its slot.

Expired Toner and Suggestions for Source of Toner
ANSWER : Hi Frank, I had a very similar question two weeks ago, but my “old beloved workhorse” is an HP Laserjet 4L. From the good old days! I too had made bad investments in “new but old truly HP” toner cartridges, hoping to coax more life from my printer. I ended up choosing to try a remanufactured cartridge from www.4inkjets.com. It was a gamble, but the website said they had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. And I can tell you they have lighting fast service. I’ve now printed 50 pages without a flaw. JOY! While the cartridges and technology are different, I suggest you try the same place. And good luck!

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.

toner cartrigdes and drums
ANSWER : You can, but there are good knock-offs and bad ones. I’ve run into ones that come totally empty. Ones that don’t have the chips installed that identify themselves to the printer. Ones that have sat on a shelf for years and fail on installation. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea. I use http://directpreciseimaging.com/ Mostly because I set him up in business and he’s local to me. I have very few problems with his products.

Waste Toner Cartridge is empty but printer is still telling me to replace it
ANSWER : All of the ones I’ve seen are optical. Light shines through a transparent section of the waste box onto a photocell. If toner builds up past that area, it gives a warning to replace it. Possibly toner dust has gotten on the photocell.
