How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible. See the following section to continue printing temporarily with black ink.
The printer will not operate if a black ink cartridge is expended or any cartridge is removed. If a color cartridge is expended, you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink. It`s best to always have extra cartridges on hand.
Method 1 – Bypassng Ink Cartridge on Epson Printer

After opening the lid, hold the ink button down. When you find the ink holer is moving to its position, then open the cartridge`s lid which is having no ink. Close it again without removing the cartridge. Close the lid and start to print.

Even if you select Black/Grayscale or Grayscale in the printer software, some color ink is still being used. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged.
Black Print Mode allows you to print only with black ink as a temporary emergency measure to minimise the down time in the event any colour inks are expended, even if there is no replacement cartridges available.
Check you have the latest drivers installed for your printer, try uninstalling and reinstalling your printer drivers or try changing the driver settings (adjusting the paper settings has been known to solve the problem). Fully Reconfigure the Printer – If all else fails, you can try entirely reconfiguring your printer.
STEP 1 Change Printer Preferences in Windows

Click start and navigate to the Printers and Devices. Right-click your printer and select printing preferences. Then, click on the Grayscale button in the advanced tab to enable black-and-white-only printing.

As long as your printer also has a colour cartridge, all the colours from the colour cartridge will print together to make … BLACK. You`re not going to want to keep it this way forever.
Navigate to Control Panel, then Printers and Scanners. Find your printer, then select Manage. To set your print preferences, from the Manage your device window, select Printing preferences. At the Paper/Quality section, in the color options, select Black & White.
The quick answer is: Yes, you can (if you own a printer model that allows it) — but you shouldn`t keep printing with an empty cartridge for too long. Why? Because running on an empty cartridge for too long can cause your printhead to overheat resulting in irreversible printer damage.
Set Default to Black and White

Right-click on the printer and click Printer properties. In the printer properties window, go to General tab and click Preferences button. In the Printing Preferences window, go to Paper/Output tab. Select Black and White.

Print In Single Cartridge Mode

For instance, the HP ENVY series allows you to print in single-cartridge mode. When it comes to printing a single color i.e black, you can perform your printing activity by simply removing the tricolor cartridge and letting your printer default settings to use only black ink.

If your machine`s cyan, magenta, or yellow toners run out, you can choose Mono in the printer driver to allow you to keep printing. You`ll be able to keep printing until the black toner runs out. When the black toner runs out, you won`t be able to print until you replace it.
A monochrome printer is a printer that prints only in black and white. Monochrome printers only need a black printer cartridge to print.
Grayscale printing is used in commercial print shops to print what appear to be `black only` images. What you may not realize is that ALL colours are used when printing something `black only` so the image has a richer appearance.
Depending on the specific printer model and your settings, the black being printed on the page can be consuming all of the ink cartridges in your printer. Depending on the printer, these ratios can vary. For example, some printer models have been proven to use this exact CMYK formula: 100%K, 33%C, 33%M, and 33%Y.
If you cannot cancel printing from the computer, cancel using the printer`s control panel. Select System Preferences from the menu > Printers & Scanners (or Print & Scan, Print & Fax), and then select the printer. Click Options & Supplies > Options (or Driver). Select On as the Permit temporary black printing setting.
Go to your computer and click “Print” from the file that you wanted to print. Click on “Properties” and then the “Color” tab next. Select the “Print in grayscale” option by clicking on its checkbox. You can now start printing in black and white.
Open Adobe Acrobat Pro, open to the Print Production tools. Choose Preflight. Click the Single Fixups button. In the Convert Colors fixups, choose Convert Registration Color to CMYK Black Only.
Choose File > Print. Select Print Color As Black.
Using blacks in printing

Regular black has CMYK values of: C = 0, M = 0, Y = 0, K = 100. Rich black uses CMYK values of: C = 60, M = 60, Y = 60, K = 100.

The ink levels may be low and you may need to refill the ink. Visually check the ink levels. Also make sure you filled the tanks with the correct colors of ink. After you print, the colors in your printout need time to set as the ink dries.
To save money, you can purchase a monochrome laser printer if you know you don`t care to print in color.
Hit the print button and scroll to `Printer Properties`. There will be an option labeled `Color` that gives you a choice between color and grayscale. You`ll want to select `Grayscale`. This indicates to the printer the document will be printed in black and white but still use different tones.
