How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

If you have a gray background when printing, verify the paper you are using meets the recommended paper specifications and check the printer`s environment. Also, cleaning the laser glass, cleaning the drum and corona wire or replacing the toner may resolve this problem.
A gray cast indicates that the drum is not getting or holding a sufficiently strong charge to hold the toner. It looks like either the OPC drum or the corona wire/primary charge roller is not working correctly. Try replacing the cartridge (the drum is part of the cartridge in many HP laser printers, including yours).
Low ink or toner levels. Toner sticking to the fuser roller or problems with the transfer roller. Low ink or toner density settings. Low or high humidity.
The probable cause of your gray printing is your print job includes a background. In a word processor like MS Word, you can add a background or watermark that is nearly impossible to see on your screen and only shows up when printed. A similar situation exists when printing a scanned image.
Usually a quick paper setting adjustment will clear up a ghosting issue right away. Run a cleaning – Most printers have a cleaning function built into the machine. Run this a couple of times to attempt to clear up the printing issue. Inspect the drum – Sometimes excess toner powder can stick to the drum.
If you`ve added a background color or image to your document and you want to print it like that, be sure that the following setting is on: Go to File > Options. Select Display. Under Printing Options select Print background colors and images.
A common cause of faded, faint printouts from your inkjet printer is dried ink particles causing a blockage in your printer. The printheads on an ink cartridge can be become blocked if the printer is not used for a period of time, so it is recommended to print a few pages each month to maintain the print quality.
Unlike full-color printing, which applies multiple colors in various concentrations, grayscale printing only uses black ink to compose an image. In order to represent the variations in tone and contrast within the image, the ink is applied in concentrations ranging from 0% black to 100% black.
Why is CMYK black not black? If you use 100% K to create a black in CMYK color mode, you`ll end up with a deep gray, not a true black. To get rich black, you need to add the right amount of all four colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
Ghost printers are printers that continue to appear in Windows although they have not been used or installed on your system in a long time, which may have been years.
Press Ctrl + K or go to Edit -> Preferences . Under Categories , select Accessibility . Check Replace Document Colors and Custom Color . Set Page Background to white .
What causes ghosting? The most likely culprit is either the imaging drum unit or the fuser unit, however humidity and the incorrect paper type can all play a role in ghosting. Ghosting is often caused by a malfunctioning imaging drum unit.
Shadow printing is a printing technique that creates a lighter shade of the text off centered to make the text appear to have a shadow beneath it.
Delete. If you wish to delete the shadow, you can select the object and again navigate to: Window -> Appearance. Select the layer that contains the drop shadow and then hit the trashcan icon to delete.
Delete the shade by pressing the Del key or right-click on the shade (CTRL + Click on Mac) and choose Delete in the context menu.
There are 2 reasons why there is gray background in a scanned PDF. One is the color mode is set to grayscale when scanning the file; the others is the contrast and brightness settings. To avoid gray background in scanned PDF, scan the PDF with black and white mode and increase the brightness contrast.
Dirty printheads

Dirty nozzles, leftover toner, debris, or dust can interfere with your printer and cause ghosting. Run the printer`s built-in cleaning function multiple times, and print a test page between each. Repeat this process until the ghosting issue disappears.

My 2550n Color LaserJet does not want to print in color
ANSWER : That model had issues with the carousel solenoid sticking. That might explain why it works after you let it sit for 10 minutes. The solenoid gets hotter with use which causes the deteriorated foam on it to become sticky and hold down the release plate instead of letting it go. This allows the carousel to spin when it is supposed to stop for each color. The solenoid is located on the right side of the printer. If you open the lid, it is just behind the opening at the top right. You need to remove the top of the printer and scrape off the goo on top of the solenoid body. I put a piece of thin sticky backed felt to replace it. Other people use electrical tape.
