How long does Canon ink last? Canon ink can last for up to two years in its sealed packaging. Even after two years, you may still get some more life out of the cartridge, so it may be worth trying after the fact.
Printing on 5% = 480 pages (the official page yield). Printing on 10% = 240 pages. Printing on 20% = 120 pages. Printing on 40% = 60 pages.
If you feel that the ink cartridges run out very quickly every time you replace the ink, it`s possible you are printing high density documents frequently. The ink consumption varies very much on print density.
Ink cartridges can dry out over time. If they are sitting in your machine for an extended period, they will eventually dry up and become unusable. The simplest way to combat this problem is by printing more frequently or running regular cleans and ink tests to ensure the nozzles remain clean.
Fortunately, ink jet colorants (dye and pigment) are very stable and typically can last 100+ years at room temperature, so dark fade is usually not a limiting permanence factor for ink jet photo prints as long as high-quality paper is used.
Inkjet prints are prone to fading over time, which can be accelerated by exposure to pollutants. Pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide can cause fading and degradation of inkjet prints.
A typical ink cartridge will yield 250 to 300 pages depending on the color density of the prints. The yield of a typical toner cartridge in a laser printer is between 2,500 and 3,000 pages. Some larger laser printers can even have toners that will yield up to 30,000 pages!
With ChromaLife 100 technology, your prints remain vivid in both color and quality for up to 100 years*. ChromaLife 100 inks and paper produce beautiful photos to last a lifetime.
On the Maintenance tab, click View Printer Status. Display Estimated ink levels. Ink status is displayed as an illustration. The information displayed on the Canon IJ Status Monitor may differ depending on the country or region where you are using your printer.
Printing with an empty cartridge will soon cause printhead nozzles to overheat and fry remaining ink solid.” So, if you must continue to print, use the “Printing Preferences” dialog, on the “PAGE SETUP” tab, with the “PRINT OPTIONS…”, “Print With:” option: “All Colors (Default)”, “All except PGBK (Black)”, or “Only …
Replace cartridges right after you remove them. Don`t leave the machine with cartridges missing. Use cartridges within six months of the first use. Some color ink is consumed even when you print in black-and-white.
Unfortunately, ink, like most things in life, is not permanent. The inks used in print production will all fade over time. The main cause is exposure to light (especially UV), which causes the ink/paper system to oxidize.

For healthier print heads and more efficient ink consumption, however, it`s better to leave your printer on. Constantly switching your printer off and on will decrease your printer`s lifespan, so try to keep the off/on to a minimum.
