How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

A typical toner cartridge will produce anywhere between 2,500 and 4,000 pages, based on a coverage of 5% (roughly third of a page of double-spaced text). Dense pages filled with small font text or graphics will dramatically reduce this output and you may only get up to 1,000 pages per cartridge.
Toner cartridges yield ranges between 2,500 to 4,000 pages before needing to seek a replacement cartridge. As for ink cartridges, users can expect to print just 200 or so pages before needing a replacement cartridge.
A typical ink cartridge will yield 250 to 300 pages depending on the color density of the prints. The yield of a typical toner cartridge in a laser printer is between 2,500 and 3,000 pages. Some larger laser printers can even have toners that will yield up to 30,000 pages!
Printing on 5% = 480 pages (the official page yield). Printing on 10% = 240 pages. Printing on 20% = 120 pages. Printing on 40% = 60 pages.
It typically gives you about 10,000–12,000 pages.
Toner cartridges can print a significantly higher amount of page yield than ink cartridges so toners last longer than ink cartridges. Most ink cartridges contain an ink volume that can usually print between 135 – 1000 pages. Toner cartridge page yields can range from 2,000 to upwards of 10,000!
Right-click the icon for your product, and then select Properties from the drop-down menu. Click the General tab, and then click Printing Preferences. Click the Basics tab, and then click About. Locate the page count at the bottom of the About This Driver screen.
Ink cartridges can usually last two or three years if properly packaged and stored. But in a standard case, they will eventually dry out and become useless after this period. However, many major ink cartridge makers don`t put expiration dates on their cartridges.
Laser printers have a print speed upwards of 25 to 50 pages per minute, going up to even 100 pages per minute for higher-end models. Print speed helps ensure projects can get completed efficiently, keeping your work environment productive. Toner cartridges for laser printers are long-lasting and easy to maintain.
Black – 5000 pages & color 7000 pages @ standard coverage area.
Simply put, the yield is the estimated number of pages that a cartridge can handle before needing a replacement. Manufacturers like HP or Xerox will calculate this number based on the cartridge volume and the set coverage amount—or how much each page on average will be covered with toner.
One to two pumps is usually enough to cover the entire area. Some toners also come in spray bottles and can be misted over the face. You want to use your toner right after you cleanse but before any serums or moisturizers.
When “Toner Low” is displayed, prepare a new toner cartridge. If you do not have a new toner cartridge at hand and need printing before obtaining it, you can continue printing about 20 pages(*1) by opening and closing the front cover or the output tray. Print quality is not guaranteed.
If your printer doesn`t show a low toner warning, or the warning flashes but your printer is still running well, you can wait for signs of low toner coming from your print-outs themselves. Towards the very end of a toner cartridge, prints will become streaky, discoloured, or faded.
It all depends on how much you print. So this leads to the question, “how long before a toner cartridge expires”? We`ve seen manufactures state that a toner cartridge should be used within 12 to 24 months after purchase.
As explained, laser toner cartridges deliver significantly higher page yields than ink cartridges and last much longer. Where most ink cartridges will print between 135 – 1000 pages, laser toners can print anywhere up to 10,000 pages each refill or replacement.
As print quality goes down over time, this will be a reason to replace the color printer. We find a black and white printer can sometimes last 10 years or more and most color laser printers are replaced every 3 to 5 years.

Expired Toner and Suggestions for Source of Toner
ANSWER : Hi Frank, I had a very similar question two weeks ago, but my “old beloved workhorse” is an HP Laserjet 4L. From the good old days! I too had made bad investments in “new but old truly HP” toner cartridges, hoping to coax more life from my printer. I ended up choosing to try a remanufactured cartridge from www.4inkjets.com. It was a gamble, but the website said they had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. And I can tell you they have lighting fast service. I’ve now printed 50 pages without a flaw. JOY! While the cartridges and technology are different, I suggest you try the same place. And good luck!

Throwing away excess toner
ANSWER : I believe that is due to the percentage of toner in the print job. If the page is less than 5% coverage, the waste box will fill faster than if you are printing at 20% coverage. Other than that, I don’t know what would cause it.

ANSWER : What mostly goes bad in toner cartridges is the drum wiper blade. They deteriorate in new sealed cartridges. Toner caking up, not so much.

toner cartrigdes and drums
ANSWER : You can, but there are good knock-offs and bad ones. I’ve run into ones that come totally empty. Ones that don’t have the chips installed that identify themselves to the printer. Ones that have sat on a shelf for years and fail on installation. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea. I use http://directpreciseimaging.com/ Mostly because I set him up in business and he’s local to me. I have very few problems with his products.

toner loose
ANSWER : That would indicate the fuser is not getting hot. Of course, that should cause an error and shut down the printer. Could be a piece of paper wrapped around the heat roller preventing the transfer of heat to the printed sheet.

Toner cartridge full, printer displays: "empty needs replacing"
ANSWER : I once went to a customer who had a similar issue. They had installed new cartridges and judging from the box, they looked OEM. Strange thing was they felt empty when lifted and they were missing the chip on the outside that tells the printer it is installed and keeps track of how many copies were printed with that cartridge. The printer has no other way of knowing if the cartridge is full or empty.
