Error 51 Beam Detect Failure

Cannot seem to get this fixed. First carefully checked the cables to the scanner. Then replaced the scanner assembly. Then replaced the controller board. Rechecked the cables. Shutter works properly. Using a camera that sees IR, can see no evidence of a beam. Must be something else. What could it be? I have a scope if anyone knows what to look for. Thanks.

I have never seen a scanner assy. go bad on one of those printers. I would suspect the DC controller board as that provides the voltage to the scanner assy. and displays the error codes as well. I’ve replaced quite a few of those.

ANSWER : Sometimes turning off and on will allow you to print a few pages. The error is a beam detect error. The only real fix is to replace the laser scanner unit. Could be a loose connector on the scanner or DC controller from the scanner. That’s unlikely. You could try the only other free fix which is to open the scanner assy. and clean all the mirrors inside. The dust could obstruct the laser beam enough to cause the detect error.

ANSWER : I’ve never worked on one of those printers, but I have never, ever seen 1 valid solution for printer repair on fixya.com I read the replies there when I need a good laugh. Makes me wonder what the “techs” on that forum actually do for a living. It certainly couldn’t be printer repair.
