The included initial cartridges are designed for reliable printer setup and cannot be used as replacement cartridges or resold. After setup, the remaining ink is available for printing.

What does the number on ink cartridges mean? The number on an ink cartridge allows you to identify if an ink cartridge is compatible with the printer you are trying to use them in. For example, HP 304 inks are compatible with the HP Deskjet 2630 as well as the HP Envy 5032 Ink.
To find out which ink cartridge is empty, check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). You can also tell which cartridge is empty by checking the speed at which the error light flashes when the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
All cartridges must be installed with ink for printing and printer maintenance. For print quality, some ink remains in replaced cartridges. Designed for EPSON cartridges only: Other brands of ink supplies are not compatible and, if described as compatible, may not function properly or continuously.
Standard cartridges are less expensive but will run out of ink faster. No matter which size you go with, the cartridge will install the exact same way in your printer. In fact, the physical cartridge size is the same regardless of the yield – the only difference is the amount of ink inside the cartridge.
Your Epson printer may have failed to recognize the new ink cartridge, or its ink level system has read it as empty. For numerous Epson printer models, there`s a way to bypass this built-in ink checking system through a quick cartridge reset. Raise the printer`s top cover and then hold the Ink button.
Try connecting the product to another router, access point, switch or hub. Try connecting the product to your router, access point, switch, or hub with another Ethernet cable. Try printing from another computer on the network to see if the problem persists.

What Is the Meaning of Numbers on the Ink Cartridges? The number you find on the ink cartridges helps you in identifying whether the ink cartridges are compatible with the printer which you have to use. For instance, the HP 304 inks are finely compatible with the HP Deskjet and even with the HP Envy 5032 Ink.
Can you print with one or two empty ink cartridges? The quick answer is: Yes, you can (if you own a printer model that allows it) — but you shouldn`t keep printing with an empty cartridge for too long.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible. See the following section to continue printing temporarily with black ink.
You can download and install the Epson Drivers and Utilities Combo Package from the Downloads tab on your product`s support page. If printing stops, you can cancel your print job and select settings to temporarily print with only black ink on plain paper or on an envelope. Click the printer icon in the Dock.
Ink is required in all cartridges to print and to perform periodic servicing to prevent clogs and other print quality issues. There is no way to bypass this feature.
Epson Ink Expiration Date

Epson ink cartridges come with a “Best If Used By” date. This date appears to be approximately two years after the date of manufacture. Epson recommends replacing your installed ink cartridges after six months, whether they`re empty or not, to ensure high-quality prints.

Check the LCD display to see which cartridge is low or empty. If you`re printing from your computer, you`ll see a message telling you which cartridge is low or empty. Click the “How to” button to see instructions for replacing the cartridge.
If you install the wrong ink cartridge in your printer, you will likely receive an error message on your printer display that prevents you from using the printer. Printers are smart and most will be able to tell right away if the wrong cartridge is installed.
Epson Printer Doesn`t recognise a new cartridge

This is to ensure it has clicked in place properly. If this doesn`t work, remove and inspect the cartridge chips. Clean away any dirt or ink that may be preventing it from being recognised. Refit and check if this has solved the problem.

Find the Cartridge Reset Button.

Some Epson cartridges such as Epson 78 ink has a reset button for refillable purposes. Turn the ink cartridge to where the microchip can be found. Using the end of a paper clip, press the reset button that can be located above the metal contacts, right in the center.

Press the left or right arrow button to select Maintenance > Reset Ink Level. Press the start button, the OK button twice, and then the start button again. Press the right or left arrow button to highlight the ink tank you refilled and press the OK button to select it. Repeat for each ink tank color you refilled.
Ink cartridges that have been sitting idle in your machine for more than a couple weeks will eventually dry out. You might be able to bring them back to life by running a cleaning on your machine, but if the pattern continues, you will eventually be placing an order for a set of replacement cartridges.
The printer will not operate if a black ink cartridge is expended or any cartridge is removed. If a color cartridge is expended, you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink. It`s best to always have extra cartridges on hand.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. You`ve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
When you fill a cartridge, the ink sometimes doesn`t make it all the way to the bottom of the reservoir. Fix this problem by removing the cartridge and injecting more ink into the sponge through the exit hole. Air bubbles also can get trapped inside the cartridge, blocking ink flow.

Multiple Problems With Epson Stylus Photo R280
ANSWER : I have had my R280 for about 3 years. It has worked fine with generic cartridges for several years now. Last week it indicated I needed to replace one cartridge. I used a generic cartridge from the same manufacturer I had used before. The printer would not accept the new cartridge and now told me that I needed to replace 4 cartridges because it recognized them as non Epson. Surely there is some way to fool the printer so it does not recognize generic cartridges – which have worked well in the past and are still over half full! Anyone got any ideas?

Epson Stylus Photo R200 – flashing red lights
ANSWER : The R800 will flash the ink and paper lights alternately when the ink pads are assumed to be full from extensive head cleaning. Sometimes, if not always, the head will lock into place on the right side above the ink head cleaning sponges that release ink to the lower ink pads.To correct the problem you need to clean the sponge area, I use cotton swabs. If the head is locked to need to release the carriage lock with a screwdriver. This will require removing the cover, but not necessarily the bottom of the unit. There is a 179 page service manual available for download for $16.50. There are free downloads of this manual, but usually are missing the 100 pages. You can remove the cover by:1. Remove the three screws on the rear housing (One to the left of the power plug, one on the opposite side and one in the lower middle bottom.2. Remove the three screws inside the upper housing (Just under the lid where the hinge is).3. Remove the screw under the left and right side in back below the vents.4. In the back pull the white ribbon closest to you out of the block, do not try to remove the block itself.5. Place a screwdriver into the slot both on the right and lift of the bottom corners on the back to release the hooks that hold the upper unit.6. Lastly, put a screwdriver into the notches on the bottom of the printer located in the front right and left, they are spring loaded.7. Remove cover.8. The head lock release screw is in the right side of the printer and is partially covered by the lower housing. I drilled a half inch hole into the side as to be able to insert a screwdriver. Turn the screw to the left and the head will rise out of the locked position. You only need to turn enough to release the head.9. Clean the sponges and any areas you see with excess ink.10. Place the cover on the unit enough to plug the white ribbon back in and turn the unit on.If the printer lights stop flashing then you are all set.
