Above or below the plastic holder containing the cartridges, a sticker indicates what type of ink cartridges your printer uses. The sticker also contains red, yellow and blue circles representing Magenta, Yellow and Cyan colors. If you see the sticker, you have an inkjet printer.
If you`ve seen the Epson EcoTank range, then you`ll know about the new type of inkjet printer that doesn`t use regular ink cartridges but bottles of ink that are squeezed into a compartment on the printer.
If you want to print a lot of text, a laser printer might be better. If you want clear, high-quality images, go with an inkjet. Overall, you should consider your space and money constraints, as well as other aspects like noise, whether you`ll want to use photo paper, and how much time it takes to print a job.
Choose an Inkjet, these often have a higher GSM support and offer a better print quality when it comes to vibrancy and general image work. Laser printers are superior for marketing material, high speeds and high yields of printing. If you`re looking to print on a commercial level, we would recommend a laser printer.
An EcoTank printer is fundamentally different to most printers – it features a large ink tank that you fill with the included ink bottles instead of cartridges. From the start you have enough ink to print up to 14,000 pages4 – that means both money and time are saved as you`re not frequently changing cartridges.
Inkjet printers spray liquid ink through microscopic nozzles onto paper as pictured below. Laser printers, on the other hand, have a drum unit that fuses (or melts) toner powder onto paper with heat. So, one printer type uses ink, the other uses powder.
Laser printers can handle both black and white and color printing, though color laser printers are more expensive than monochrome laser printers. Typically, laser printers are used for printing whereas newer all-in-one printers can function as a printer, copier, scanner and fax.
Inkjet printers use cartridges that contain tiny jets that spray ink onto the paper. This results in high-quality prints with accurate colors. Deskjet printers use a ribbon that coats the paper with ink, which results in prints that are not as bright or colorful as those from inkjet printers.
Although laser printer cartridges are more expensive, laser printers have a significantly lower cost per page than inkjet printers, particularly if you`re looking to print a lot in black and white.
Inkjet printers typically run at a lower price point than laser printers, and printer ink is cheaper than toner. However, laser printers and toner have a longer lifespan despite their high cost. Meaning laser toner cartridges have a lower cost per printed page than printer ink.
Inkjet printer cartridges are typically cheaper than laser printer cartridges, but toner (laser printer ink) tends to last longer. Laser printers are ideal if you tend to print mostly text-based documents because they can print text two or even three times faster than most inkjet printers.

So how do you determine whether your printer is an inkjet printer? The easiest way to tell is by looking at the printheads – the nozzles that dispense the ink onto the paper. inkjet printers typically have two or more printheads, while other types of printers usually only have one.
