The primary culprit in the problem of clogged printhead nozzles, whether in Epson printers or otherwise, is air. Air blockages are fairly common, particularly because nozzles are becoming smaller, with every little bit of technological advancement. The next big culprit is, of course, dried ink.
One of the problems with an inkjet printer is that the cartridges can clog up. This can happen if the nozzle has dried-up ink, from infrequent use, or if it contains air bubbles, which can form after changing cartridges.
Your inkjet is only partially jetting. Some inkjet printers clog more often than others. The Internet buzzes with conjecture: the micro-holes in Epson printheads deliver sharper prints, but clog more easily. Canon PIXMA inkjets clog less often because they run a preemptive head cleaning cycle.
You can avoid troublesome nozzle clogs by regularly using your printer to circulate ink and performing manual nozzle checks on at least a weekly basis. If recent events have led to less-frequent printing, then a weekly manual cleaning cycle can help to keep the ink system flushed.
Remove the nozzle from the printer and place it in a shallow dish of 91% isopropyl alcohol. This type of alcohol is effective in breaking down ink clogs without disintegrating the printhead-installed cartridge`s sponge component. Soak it overnight, then dry it with a lint-free cloth.
The sponge end of a blocked printer head can be cleaned with only one liquid other than water. This liquid is isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol isn`t strong enough to melt the sponge but is still strong enough to dissolve the ink inside the blocked printer head.
Soak the Printhead
Fill a bowl with warm water (or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the printhead) and place the printhead directly in it. Let it sit for five minutes or so. Pull the printhead out of the water and use a lint-free cloth or paper towel to remove the dried ink.
The reason behind this problem is that some of the old material remains in the extruder due to the lower temperature needs of the new material. As a result, the old filament will not melt completely, and the residue left behind may cause the nozzle to clog in the long run.
The temperature of the nozzle plays a big role in preventing clogs, as too high of a temperature can cause some filament to harden and clog the nozzle. Make sure you are using the recommended temperature settings for your printer and the type of filament you are using to ensure the best results.
If you`ve noticed blemishes, imperfections or marks on recent print jobs, don`t fret as the problem is unlikely to be a mechanical one. Like most electronic hardware in the home or office, inkjet printers require regular maintenance to keep them in tip-top condition and working at their best.
Inkjet Printers Can Have Low Print Quality
Don`t get us wrong—inkjet printers actually usually shine in the print-quality department in comparison to their laser companions. Where they may have trouble is print text-rich documents, especially if the ink is running low or the print heads are clogged.
A piece of paper stuck in the paper tray or inside the printer can create a paper jam. Paper jams can occur for a variety of reasons, such as overloading the paper tray, loading different thicknesses of paper in the tray, or using paper that isn`t appropriate for your particular printer.
Among the more common technical issues that may bring down a printer are disconnected cables, malfunctioning routers, and low ink levels. Moreover, software problems such as interrupted connections or incorrect settings in your system`s drivers can also cause your printer to show up as offline.
The Cause of Clogs
Printheads clog because nozzles get blocked by either air or ink. Clogs usually happen when: You keep printing with depleted ink cartridges. Using empty ink cartridges can result in air bubbles that can clog your cartridge and/or printhead.
Use Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) cleaning solution to clean printer exterior effectively and safely to avoid any printer damage.
The Power Cleaning utility allows you to replace all of the ink inside the ink tubes. In the following situations, you may need to use this feature to improve the print quality. You printed or performed head cleaning when the ink levels were too low to be seen in the ink tank windows.
Press and hold the power button and the help button at the same time until the Power Cleaning screen appears on the LCD screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the Power Cleaning. When the Power Cleaning is finished, run a nozzle check.
A print head scratch occurs when an accumulation of dust or debris gets stuck in your machine. And if this happens, the damage cannot be fixed. In most cases, you would need to purchase a new printhead. That`s why it`s important to keep the dust out, away from your machine.
Remove the toner cartridge and gently wipe to remove any dust or toner underneath with a dry cloth. If you notice excess toner inside the print device, it may be possible to remove it using a vacuum that is specifically designed to capture fine dust particles like toner powder. These vacuums can be costly, however.
Isopropyl alcohol: This is great for cleaning ink residue, dirt, and dust from printheads. Make sure to use a solution with at least 90% isopropyl alcohol, as lower concentrations may leave residue behind.
Take a cotton towel or rag and dampen it with rubbing alcohol. Blot the ink from the outside inward once again to loosen the ink particles from the fibers in your carpet. If this isn`t breaking up the stain, try using hydrogen peroxide.
Check that the correct paper is properly loaded into the printer and is not jammed. Replacing damaged cables, plugging in loose or disconnected cables, and fixing paper jams as necessary may resolve the issue.
How Long Does A Printer Last? The average lifespan of a printer is from three to five years max. However, the lifespan of laser printers is more than inkjet printers. Usually, inkjet printer life expectancy is three years or less but the laser printer runs more than that of inkjets i.e five years or more.
