Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
I would like to second this question. I have the same issue with the media not being detected by the printer. The forwarding wheels squeak more than I would expect. I wonder where the sensor is that it uses to decide if there is paper or not. If I can figure it out I will post the saga here.
How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :
One of the most common causes of paper jams is that the paper has simply not been loaded correctly into the printer paper feed. With this in mind, remove any paper from the tray in order to check for any jams. If you do see some paper jammed, pull each sheet out of the printer slowly until the printer is clear again.
Small fragments of sticky label material commonly get torn off and stuck within your printer, collecting dust and causing a jam. Shut the printer off, get a flashlight, and try to see inside. Make sure no label fragments have jammed up your printer before proceeding.
Make sure your paper meets the specifications for your product. If paper dust builds up on the rollers, they may lose traction and become unable to feed paper properly. Clean the paper guide. If roll paper does not feed, cut the end straight across and uncurl it by rolling it backward, if necessary.
Low-quality paper leaves an accumulation of tiny paper bits often referred to as “paper dust” inside the machine. This “dust” is one of the top causes of paper jams. More dust means more jams. Besides jams, the dust also contributes to poor-quality prints and causes machine parts to wear at a faster rate.
Paper jams can occur for a variety of reasons, such as overloading the paper tray, loading different thicknesses of paper in the tray, or using paper that isn`t appropriate for your particular printer. False paper jams can also occur.
your pickup roller is dirty and the printer can`t grab a piece of paper. it will say paper jam when it does this. get a drop of dishsoap and clean the pickup roller of your printer with this. scrape at it with your fingernail to get the roller clean and wipe it off with a damp washcloth.
Contrary to its name, there is nothing supernatural or spooky about a ghost jam. Instead, ghost jamming refers to an issue whereby the copier reports a paper jam even though there is no paper being physically jammed within the copier. Such an occurrence is also known as a fake jam or a false jam.
Some of the most common printer problems that most of us have experienced include paper jamming, slow printing, uneven printing, and wrong colour output. If you use your printer frequently, we know how annoying it can be to have persisting problems with the printer.
Slide the paper all the way into the printer. The leading edge of the paper will stop at the Paper Drive Roller. Locate the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor on the right side of the paper path. It can be seen from the top of the printer with the Top Cover open and has red, black, and blue wires attached to it.
Turn off the scanner and unplug the AC adapter. Disconnect any connected cables. Pull down on the cover open lever and open the scanner cover. Use a genuine Epson cleaning kit or a soft, moist cloth to wipe off any dust or dirt on the glass scanning surfaces and the rollers inside the scanner cover.
A paper jam is when paper or other printed material gets stuck or lodged in a printer and cannot eject.
How to do a hard reset on your printer. With the cartridges still installed, power down the printer and then unplug the power cord from the wall. Wait for a minute, then plug the printer back in and power it back up. Wait for the cartridges to center and then try printing again.
Reset. Resetting the printer stops printing and clears the current print job received from the active interface. You may want to reset the printer when there is a problem with the print job itself and the printer cannot print successfully.
The reset key is a single use key and once used cannot be used again. All EPSON printers have inbuilt counters that count up the number of pages a printer produces, the number of head cleans executed and various other attributes. Once a critical level is reached the printer will enter its service mode.
Capacitive sensors can detect objects that have a dielectric constant that is different from air. Hence, these sensors can detect objects made from a wide variety of materials such as plastic, paper, wood, etc.
Access the Print or Page Setup dialog box. Click the Utility icon button, then click the Auto Nozzle Check and Cleaning button. Follow the on-screen instructions. The power light flashes while the printer performs the cleaning cycle.
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers. The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly. The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product. The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
Ghost prints happen when the drum or fuser unit within your printer become faulty. Because a fault with this element won`t heat the particles of the toner to a high enough temperature, the marks being made on the paper are much lighter in colour and appear more faded than typical documents.
The Cache Manager stores the cache files, by default, in c:\program files\printer properties pro\printer installer client\cache.
Printers typically have sensors that detect the type of paper being used. These sensors can be optical sensors that detect the size and thickness of the paper, or mechanical sensors that detect the presence of specific features on the paper, such as holes or notches.
Make sure the scanner is placed on a flat, stable surface. Select the Unsharp Mask check box in the Office Mode or Professional Mode window. See Adjusting the Color and Other Image Settings for instructions. Adjust the Auto Exposure setting in the Professional Mode window.
A cleaning sheet will help remove dust from the rollers, which can cause a loss of traction and prevent paper from feeding properly. Caution: Remove the instruction sheet attached to the Epson Ink Jet Printer Cleaning Sheets and do not follow the steps on it; they are not correct for your printer.

Paper feeds straight through without printing on an Epson R2400
ANSWER : I was able to get it to print the internal test page by holding down the sheet paper feed button while turning the machine on — then continuing to hold the sheet paper feed button. It took several attempts, feeding a page straight through, but eventually it caught the sheet and printed. So it may be a timing issue as others have mentioned. It could still mean that the feed rollers are worn out. The back side of the large D-shaped feed roller has visible abrasion on it. The abrasion is difficult to see as the roller does not stay with the flat side exposed.

Paper Jam error but no paper jam
ANSWER : Obviously you didn’t get all the paper cleared out. There is a small scrap in the paper path causing the jam when the paper hits it. You can try clearing it out by inserting something stiff like a piece of file folder from the back of the printer into the paper path and pushing the offending piece out that way.
