Standard cartridges are less expensive but will run out of ink faster. No matter which size you go with, the cartridge will install the exact same way in your printer. In fact, the physical cartridge size is the same regardless of the yield – the only difference is the amount of ink inside the cartridge.
Dye ink uses colour substances that are dissolved in a liquid while pigment ink uses small colour particles that are held in a suspension. The water soluble dye can be seen as sugar that dissolves in water and the pigments as sand mixed in water.
Epson makes both dye-based and pigment-based inks. Its UltraChrome Hi-Gloss, used in its high-end Stylus Photo R1800 printer, is pigment-based and is rated to last 250 years. Meanwhile, Epson`s Claria Hi-Definition, which is used in printers like its Epson Stylus Photo 1400, is claimed to last 98 years.
Epson DURABrite™ Ultra is a full pigment ink set. As opposed to dye-based inks which are solutions of water-soluble colour dyes, pigment inks are liquid colloids of opaque microscopic coloured particles suspended in a fluid known as a “binder” or “vehicle”.
Today, you`ll find that most printers use pigment-based inks for archival prints. Their use ensures the longevity of giclee and archival pigment prints beyond 100 years.

Epson ink cartridges come with a “Best If Used By” date. This date appears to be approximately two years after the date of manufacture. Epson recommends replacing your installed ink cartridges after six months, whether they`re empty or not, to ensure high-quality prints.
You will get high-quality printouts from Epson printers as they provide a good resolution of up to 4800 × 1200 dpi. The ink cartridges used in these printers are cheap and affordable. You can also save money on printing costs by buying re-manufactured cartridges for your Epson printer.
All cartridges must be installed with ink for printing and printer maintenance. For print quality, some ink remains in replaced cartridges. Designed for EPSON cartridges only: Other brands of ink supplies are not compatible and, if described as compatible, may not function properly or continuously.
Dyes are generally liquid in form while pigments are not. In fact, pigments are powdery in form. Dye-based printer inks use color substances or colorants that are fully dissolved in a liquid. Pigment-based printer inks, on the other hand, consist of fine powder of solid colorant particles suspended in a liquid carrier.
Dye-based inks take a soluble colourant or dye and dissolve it in the liquid to create their colouration, whereas pigment ink works via microscopic solid colorant particles suspended evenly in the liquid carrier as a very fine powder, without ever becoming part of it.
Genuine Epson inks are specially formulated to be used with Epson printers. Non-genuine inks are generally manufactured using cheap and inferior materials. Further the poor quality of material used inside the counterfeit ink bottles can lead to leaks causing permanent staining and damage to the printer`s hardware.
The reason is dye ink and pigment ink has different base solutions. Pigments need a chemical matrix to suspend in the liquid. Once you break the matrix, the pigment particles will slowly conjugate and form clogs. Therefore, you should use up the old ink as much as possible before switching.
Archival Inks
Black Actinic Inks are chemically stable and feature an inorganic pigment that has no tendency to absorb impurities like other ink pigments can.

Epson Artisan 837 Cyan Ink Blotches-leaking
ANSWER : Just encountered same problem (with light magenta) and discovered it was my own fault! There’s an adhesive-backed piece of aluminum foil that serves as one wall of the ink channels in the white plastic transition junction where it connects to the printhead. In trying to clean the printhead, I apparently nicked that foil, but didn’t notice when I reassembled, so I created a real mess in the printer. I cleaned everything up and then carefully (to cover the damage but not plug the ink channel) smeared a light coating of Goop household cement over the nicked hole, let it cure for about 6 hours, put everything together, and the leaking stopped.

Epson ink cartridge leaking?
ANSWER : Posting this cause it worked for me. I have an Artisan 837 that was leaving pools of blue on the page. I tried Epson’s recommendation of cleaning the print path by pressing the copy button on the control panel (with nothing on the flatbed). Printed 5 pages and the last 2 were clean. Did a test print and the problem was back. Repeated a few times with the problem reocccuring. Switched out the cartridge. no better and now the printer doesn’t recognize its own brand cartridge. Yet, it accepts the 3rd party one.
