Cleaning the print head will start the ink cartridge replacement process. If you do not intend to replace an ink cartridge, press the ink button again to return the print head to its home position. The printer starts cleaning the print head and the power light and the ink lights begin flashing.

The sponge end of a blocked printer head can be cleaned with only one liquid other than water. This liquid is isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol isn`t strong enough to melt the sponge but is still strong enough to dissolve the ink inside the blocked printer head.
Printheads can be thoroughly cleaned by soaking them in a solution of water and ammonia for several hours and then washing them under warm running water. This method has worked for others, and it`s also cheaper than replacing the printheads.
Soak the Printhead
Fill a bowl with warm water (or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the printhead) and place the printhead directly in it. Let it sit for five minutes or so. Pull the printhead out of the water and use a lint-free cloth or paper towel to remove the dried ink.
Clean the printhead nozzles.
Dampen a microfiber cloth with distilled water. Be sure to use distilled water to prevent any residue from being left behind. Avoid using a paper towel that could leave lint on your printhead. Carefully clean your printhead with the wet cloth to remove dried ink.
If you still see white or dark lines or missing nozzles in your printouts, even after cleaning the print head several times, you can run a Power Cleaning. If you do not see improvement after running a Power Cleaning, turn off the product and wait at least 12 hours before running another Power Cleaning.
In general, it is best to use the purest isopropyl alcohol (99%) available to you. Alcohol that is 90% pure also works well. You can use 70% pure isopropyl alcohol, but if you do, you must wait much longer after cleaning to ensure that it is completely dry.
No, you should not use petrol to clean your clogged inkjet cartridge. Petrol is a highly flammable and volatile liquid that can damage your inkjet cartridge and printer. Additionally, it can be hazardous to your health if inhaled or absorbed through the skin.

If you only want to clean the surface of the head, ethanol should be fine. If you`re trying to unclog it, soaking in ethanol can help. If you embark on cleaning out the head in this manner, you have to keep going until there is no ink left inside the head and the alcohol remains clear.

First of all I just gave it a quick shot on the bottom of the cartridge (head section), any WD40 will be washed off or thru in a short period of time by the ink flowing through, maybe a few prints. I had no problem, my first print after using WD40 was fine. Run a few 4×6 thru first to be sure.
