Make sure the Black/Grayscale or Grayscale setting is not selected in your printer software. Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged. Then clean the print head, if necessary. The ink levels may be low and you may need to refill the ink.
If the printer is printing black only, the Ink option in the printer driver may be set to Black instead of Color or a setting in the software may be set to print black only. Also, the print head nozzles may be clogged.
Clean the printheads: Sometimes the issue why you are unable to print in color is because our printheads are clogged with ink. Clean the printheads and then print a document to check if color printing works. Some printers also have in-built programs that can clean themselves so remember to check for that.
Kindly go to Start > Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Printer > select Run Troubleshooter. You may also check the print settings to ensure that the option for black and white/grayscale is not selected.
At the Windows Manage your device screen, click Printer properties. Click Preferences. From the Color Mode dropdown, choose either Color or Black and White.
Color Matching Settings
EPSON Color Controls. Lets you manage color using controls in your printer software, or turn off color management.
To select supported Black Print Mode settings, you must first enable the option for Black Print Mode. To do this, open \Applications\Epson Software\Epson Printer Utility 4\Driver Settings and click into the check box beside Permit temporary black printing.
Even if you select Black/Grayscale or Grayscale in the printer software, some color ink is still being used. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged.
Select Start > Settings . Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage.
You can visually inspect the remaining cartridge levels on your printer. If they are full but you still cannot print properly, check the cartridge`s expiry date. Expired ink cartridges often dry up which causes problems in the print results.
Check the ink levels Sometimes, the printer may not print black ink because it is low or empty. You can check the ink levels on the printer`s display, or by using the software that came with your printer. If the ink level is low, replace the cartridge or refill it according to the manufacturer`s instructions.
You can fix the “Epson printer not printing black” ink issue by cleaning its printhead using the distilled water, and sponges. The printhead of the printer can also be cleaned by running a cleaning cycle on your printer.
Monochrome printing only requires a small amount of black ink, while grayscale printing mixes black and color ink or toner to make up different shades of gray.
CMYK (or process color) is the color mode used in commercial printing to create full-color graphics and images. The process involves combining varying amounts of cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y), and black (K – for “key”) ink to produce the full spectrum of color.
Color management translates the image colors so that each device can reproduce them in the same way and the colors you see on your monitor will be close to the colors in your printed image. All colors may not match exactly because the printer may not reproduce the same range of colors as the monitor.
Auto. The machine automatically detects whether each original is color or black & white and switches the mode appropriately (full color for a color original or black & white for a black & white original).
You can easily identify a black & white or color printer in the print area, by looking at the circular wheel next to the printer number visible at the front of the printer.

Right click on your printer and select Properties. From the list on the left side, select Printer Options. Then scroll down to the Printer Features Common section and change the Ink Set option to Color. Hit Apply.

Note: To disable automatic black ink switching, press the setup button and select System Administration > Printer Settings > BK Ink Auto Change > Off.
The Cause of Clogs
Printheads clog because nozzles get blocked by either air or ink. Clogs usually happen when: You keep printing with depleted ink cartridges. Using empty ink cartridges can result in air bubbles that can clog your cartridge and/or printhead.
You can print when one printer cartridge is empty by adjusting your printer`s settings. However, it will depend on how lenient your printer is. Numerous HP printers today, however, have been programmed to block you from printing when one printer cartridge is empty.
