How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

The printer will not operate if a black ink cartridge is expended or any cartridge is removed. If a color cartridge is expended, you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink. It`s best to always have extra cartridges on hand.
If the ink level is sufficient, but the printer still does not print black ink, you may need to run a cleaning cycle. A cleaning cycle is a process that cleans the printer heads and removes any clogged or dried ink.
Click the start menu and search for `Devices and Printers`. Select devices and printers in the search bar. This will allow you to see the printers connected to the computer. Click the printer you want to check, and you`ll see the ink levels at the bottom of the devices and printers section.
To find out which ink cartridge is empty, check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). You can also tell which cartridge is empty by checking the speed at which the error light flashes when the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
When an ink cartridge is running low, the Low Ink Reminder screen automatically appears. You can also check the ink cartridge status from this screen. If you do not want to display this screen, first access the printer driver and then click the Maintenance tab, Speed & Progress, and then Monitoring Preferences.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible.
Epson`s new EcoTank pigment ink, DURABrite ET INK, delivers prints that are sharp, clear and water-resistant, even in barcode mode. Ideal for everyday printing, these replacement ink bottles offer high page yields at an affordable cost, with uncompromised print quality.
Do all Epson printers use the same cartridge? No. It`s important to check the compatibility lists on our website so you can be sure you`re buying the right ink or toner for your Epson printer.

Black Print Mode allows you to print only with black ink as a temporary emergency measure to minimise the down time in the event any colour inks are expended, even if there is no replacement cartridges available.
Even if you select Black/Grayscale or Grayscale in the printer software, some color ink is still being used. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged.
Ink cartridges can dry out over time. If they are sitting in your machine for an extended period, they will eventually dry up and become unusable. The simplest way to combat this problem is by printing more frequently or running regular cleans and ink tests to ensure the nozzles remain clean.
How long does 1ml of ink last? 1ml of fountain pen ink will typically write for 25 pages with a medium nib, 20 pages with a broad nib, and 64 pages with a fine nib.
Ink limit is a expressed as a percentage to show the maximum amount of ink used in a particular process. In offset printing the limit is typically how much ink the paper is able to absorb (often 320%) and in digital printing it relates to the thickness of toner the fuser can effectively melt (often 260%).
A standard ink cartridge holds approximately 0.8ml of ink meaning a pack of 6 ink cartridges provides just less than 5ml of ink.
There are chips inside the original cartridges to record how many pages were printed and they cannot be reset. As a result the printer reads the chips and tells you that the cartridges are empty, even though they are not. This is why you are getting the “ink low” message even though the ink tank is at full capacity.
As a general rule, when a printer runs out of ink or toner, it stops printing legibly. Depending on the printer model, the unit may look to replace one colour with another. For example, if you run out of black ink, your printer could replace it with blue, in order to still print the document you need.
You may need to replace an ink cartridge before it is expended if it has been installed in your printer for more than six months and print quality declines.
Regular black has CMYK values of: C = 0, M = 0, Y = 0, K = 100. Rich black uses CMYK values of: C = 60, M = 60, Y = 60, K = 100.
The other way to create a rich black is to mix 60% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40% Yellow, and again 100% Black (60, 40, 40, 100 – CMYK). At Clash we use this mixture as it creates a more neutral rich black.
The quick answer is: Yes, you can (if you own a printer model that allows it) — but you shouldn`t keep printing with an empty cartridge for too long. Why? Because running on an empty cartridge for too long can cause your printhead to overheat resulting in irreversible printer damage.
Epson does not recommend refilling or using 3rd party ink cartridges. Using these products will not void the product`s original warranty, however, if these 3rd party products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.
Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged. The print head needs to be kept charged to prevent air bubbles from entering.
An inkless printer can print without the use of ink. Without the need for cartridges or toners, there are no recurring costs.
