To find out which ink cartridge is empty, check EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows) or EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh). You can also tell which cartridge is empty by checking the speed at which the error light flashes when the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
EPSON Status Monitor 3 allows you to monitor your printer`s status, alerts you when printer errors occur, and provides troubleshooting instructions when needed. EPSON Status Monitor 3 is available when: The printer is connected directly to the host computer via the parallel port [LPT1] or the USB port.
EPSON Status Monitor 3 is a utility program that monitors your printer and gives you information about its current status. For example, you can find out the amount of remaining toner through this utility. If a print error occurs, the utility provides you with a message describing the error.
If EPSON Status Monitor 3 does not appear, access the printer driver and click the Maintenance tab and then the Extended Settings button. In the Extended Settings window, check the Enable EPSON Status Monitor 3 check box. Depending on current settings, the simplified status monitor may be displayed.
On your computer, in the Windows Notification Area (bottom-right corner of your Windows desktop), right-click the printer icon. In the printer menu, select the Properties or Preferences option. In the printer settings window, the ink or toner levels are displayed for the currently-installed cartridge(s).
Click the Maintenance tab. Click Extended Settings. Unselect Enable EPSON Status Monitor 3. Click OK as necessary to save your settings.

If your printer`s status displays “Printer in error state,” there may be a problem with the printer itself. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your PC by Wi-Fi or cable. Check it for low paper or ink, and be sure the cover isn`t open and the paper isn`t jammed.
On the printer control panel, swipe the display, and then touch the Setup icon ( ). The Setup menu displays. Swipe the display, and then touch Reports. Touch Printer Status Report.
Select Start , then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners . Scroll down to Related Settings and select Print server properties. Select the Drivers tab, and see if your printer is listed. If it is, you`re all set.

ANSWER : I had the same problem. After reading the comments, I tried Liquid Wrench spray. 1st try got about sixty percent improvement. Tried again this time I let it set for about 10 min then did a head cleaning. Completely solved the problem. I am a little concerned about its use on plastic. So far so good.
