How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

What is the drum unit? The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called “The photosensitive drum” inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
Drum Error typically appears when the corona wire on the drum unit needs to be cleaned or when the drum unit needs to be replaced.
There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used, number of pages per print job and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 12,000 pages.
The drum uses static electricity to attract powdered toner to the drums cylinder. The drum rolls the toner onto the paper in the form of your print. The toner is melted & pressed onto the paper by heat from a fuser as it passes through its rollers. Your print comes out of the printer.
Other Signs and Symptoms

The most obvious is most common on laser color printers and can be detected by a flashing message on the printer display screen. Other signs of a bad printer drum include printing blank pages, printing gray pages and strange sounds coming from the printer as it prints.

The Brother machine will display a `Replace Drum` or `Drum Stop` message when the machine has printed approximately 15,000 pages. The drums should be replaced as a set in order to maintain print quality.
You should replace it when your image quality declines and does not improve even after changing your toner. Or simply replace your drum when your printer notifies you to do so. When the replace drum light or message comes on, your printer might stop working without much notice.
What Makes a Printer Drum Dirty? A printer drum gets dirty because of one thing: toner. The job of a printer drum is to transfer the toner from the cartridge to the paper. The toner cartridge places the toner on a roller that`s part of the drum.
15,000 pages (1 page/job). There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used and so on. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 15,000 pages.
Laser printers use a single drum, but may have more than one toner cartridge. Monochrome models use only black toner, and color laser printers have four cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. When used in combination, the printer produces all colors, hues and shades of gray.
To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the surface of the drum unit, only the wheel on the end.
Printer is an output device, which is used to print information on paper.
No Drum Unit means the drum unit is not installed or not installed correctly. If you are unable to install the drum unit into the machine, refer to: `Unable to remove or install drum and toner from the machine`
Drum heads wear out!

Drummers who practice a lot should probably change heads once every six months. Drummers who own their own drums can probably change the heads without any problem, but if it is the first time, it might be a good idea to have someone at the drum shop, or an experienced drummer, teach you.

Shelf life is a period of time the components can be stored and still be suitable for use. A laser printer drum`s shelf life is approximately two years if the drum is still in its protective bag. Leave your printer`s drum in its protective bag until you`re ready to install the component.

1 Prepare cleaning material. For cleaning, HP recommends using HP Equipment Cleaning Wipes, but you can use an HP-approved lint-free wipe and deionized or distilled water. Note: If dark spots appear on back side of prints, clean drum screen.
Pour a quart of white vinegar into the wash drum with a cup of baking soda. Use a stiff nylon brush and vinegar to scrub the interior of the wash drum. At the hottest temperature setting, run a wash cycle with this cleaning solution in an empty washer; select the heavy-duty wash cycle if available.
A degraded drum unit can cause streaks, smudges, and blank spots on your printed page even if you just inserted a new printer toner. While a broken drum unit won`t break your printer, it will just fail to stop printing at a certain point.
Brother makes inkjet and laser models, while Epson focuses almost exclusively on inkjet models. Brother printers usually produce higher-quality documents, but Epson printers are better for photos as they usually have a wider color range.
Found within any laser printer, a toner drum is a component which transfers the toner powder stored within the cartridge onto the paper. It comes in the form of an electrically-charged cylinder. The printer will take toner powder from the cartridges and apply it on to the drum unit`s roller.
What`s the average lifespan of a printer? The average lifespan of a printer is around 3-5 years. With proper upkeep and maintenance, some printers can last longer, but eventually your machine will need an upgrade.
Printer drum repair is an important service that requires knowledge and experience to complete in order to restore your printer. It includes troubleshooting printer drum problems such as HP, Brother and others, cleaning printer drum cartridges, replacing printer drum 88a and buying printer drum cleaning.
The toner may also be compressed inside the cartridge, which may cause the cartridge components to force. As for the toner and the drum, they do not have an expiration date.
