In Windows, search for and open Add a printer or scanner . Click Add a printer or scanner, and then wait for Windows to locate available printers. If your printer is found, click it, and then click Add device to complete the driver installation.
Printer Not Found

Try disconnecting other USB devices, rebooting your Dell and then connecting the printer to an available USB port. Regardless of what type of cable you`re using, make sure the cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the Dell computer, otherwise the printer may not be recognized.

Restart devices

If your printer connects to a Wi-Fi network, disconnect your computer or mobile device from the network name (SSID), and then reconnect it to the same network name your printer is connected to. If the printer is available and has a ready status, the issue is resolved.

The first thing you need to do is get both machines started. Power on your Dell computer and HP printer. You can tell if they`re working by looking for small lights or a flashing display on the front of the equipment. The next step is to give the computer and printer the ability to communicate with each other.
Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
Generally, this error happens if the printer driver isn`t up-to-date or is corrupt, or new Windows updates are needed. Corrupt and incompatible printer drivers, however, are the most common causes of this problem.
1) Open Control Panel in your computer, and view by large icons or small icons. 2) Click Devices and Printers. 3) Find your printer, right click on your printer (sometimes it may display as Unspecified) and select Troubleshoot. 4) Let your computer troubleshoot the issue and follow the on-screen instructions to fix it.
Your ”Windows Cannot Connect to the Printer” error may result from outdated printer drivers. In this case, you can fix the issue by updating the installed drivers. Windows` Device Manager automates the process, so you don`t have to find and install the latest drivers manually.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner. Choose the printer you want, and then select Add Device.
Can you use any printer with any computer? Modern printers can be connected via the USB port, which makes them compatible with almost any computer make or model. You can use a compatible cable USB A-B for square instead of rectangular Type A sockets on computers.
Cabling. The vast majority of modern printers use a USB connection, which can also be found on nearly all computers. Many printers have a USB Type B socket, which is square rather than the rectangular Type A socket found on most computers, but compatible cables known as USB A-B are widely and cheaply available.
Click the Start Button or press the Windows Keyboard Button and type Control Panel to filter to the Control Panel Icon. The control panel launches. Select Devices and Printers. On the top menu bar, click Add a Printer.
