For printing industries, ultrasonic cleaning is widely used on printheads such as HP, Canon, Epson, Mimaki, Konica, Seiko, and Nova. However, some of the printheads have thin membranes to divide ink colors. Therefore, there are specific printheads shouldn`t receive an ultrasonic cleaning.
Although different brands of cleaning solution will slightly vary when it comes to ingredients and ingredient ratios, they are largely based on the same three components: Distilled water. Isopropyl alcohol. Detergent.
Take a warm damp paper towel or coffee filter and blot the cartridge with the print heads facing down onto the paper towel to remove the dried ink on the print head. Then, taking a DRY paper towel or coffee filter, hold the cartridge down against the paper towel for 2-3 minutes. A dry paper towel will wick the ink out.

We recommend UP 132-B, a mild phosphoric acid solution designed to safely clean at low temperatures. This environmentally-friendly detergent is commonly used on brass instruments but is suitable for many other applications. It`s compatible with copper, aluminum, stainless steel, bronze, plastics, glass, and ceramics.
It is used in some cases as a safe alternative to x-rays, known to cause damage to the body. You should not be concerned about the health effects from ultrasonic cleaning. The energy used to make your parts come clean in solution has no known effects on your hearing or other parts of the human anatomy.
One of the best, most popular solvents for ink jet printers is MEK. MEK is a versatile chemical solvent with a high evaporation rate, and for this reason is one of the preferred solvents for ink jet printers. Due to its high evaporation rate, inks produced with MEK have the ability to dry quickly.
Take a cotton towel or rag and dampen it with rubbing alcohol. Blot the ink from the outside inward once again to loosen the ink particles from the fibers in your carpet. If this isn`t breaking up the stain, try using hydrogen peroxide.
You can buy a specialty printhead cleaner kit with a cleaning solution, but it`s not really necessary. For water based inks, a soap and water solution will suffice (half a cup of distilled water with a drop of dishwashing liquid and an ounce of isopropyl alcohol).
Today, there are two primary types of inkjet print head technologies in use: Piezo (Epson Printers) and Thermal (Canon and HP Printers).
Printheads can be thoroughly cleaned by soaking them in a solution of water and ammonia for several hours and then washing them under warm running water. This method has worked for others, and it`s also cheaper than replacing the printheads.
Alcohol that is 90% pure also works well. You can use 70% pure isopropyl alcohol, but if you do, you must wait much longer after cleaning to ensure that it is completely dry. For example, 99% isopropyl alcohol might dry in as quickly as one minute; 70% isopropyl alcohol can take as long as 15 minutes.
Measure 2 cups of water and place into the ultrasonic cleaner. Add 1 teaspoon of ammonia to the water in the cleaner. Pour 2 tablespoons of dish washing detergent into the mixture. Turn the machine on and let it run for 10 minutes to mix the homemade ultrasonic cleaner solution and allow the ammonia smell to dissipate.

Pearls,coral, tortoise shell, ivory, shell cameos, jet, and amber should not be put in an ultrasonic cleaner.
The sponge end of a blocked printer head can be cleaned with only one liquid other than water. This liquid is isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol isn`t strong enough to melt the sponge but is still strong enough to dissolve the ink inside the blocked printer head.
In general, use isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth or swab — the alcohol evaporates quickly without leaving residue. If the print nozzles are clogged, you might have a more involved cleaning procedure ahead of you.

One small segment (nozzle check) missing/clogged – cleaning?
ANSWER : You need to buy a “head cleaning kit”. What that does is inject cleaning fluid through the ink port on top down through the heads using a syringe. They don’t cost much. Do a search on eBay for “Epson head cleaning kit” There’s lots of them. Another idea stolen from this site. Gotta love the internet.

Epson Artisan 835 print head cleaning question
ANSWER : I had the same problem. After reading the comments, I tried Liquid Wrench spray. 1st try got about sixty percent improvement. Tried again this time I let it set for about 10 min then did a head cleaning. Completely solved the problem. I am a little concerned about its use on plastic. So far so good.
