Many people ask if these cartridges can be used interchangeably, or if your printer will work if one of the cartridges is installed and not the other. The short answer is, no. If your printer requires both types of cartridges, you will need them both for the machine to work properly.
The ink supply labeled PB is for photo black. PB is used in combination to give a higher quality image over the ET printer with only 4 ink supplies.
If the ink level is sufficient, but the printer still does not print black ink, you may need to run a cleaning cycle. A cleaning cycle is a process that cleans the printer heads and removes any clogged or dried ink.
Method 1 – Bypassng Ink Cartridge on Epson Printer

After opening the lid, hold the ink button down. When you find the ink holer is moving to its position, then open the cartridge`s lid which is having no ink. Close it again without removing the cartridge. Close the lid and start to print.

Even if you select Black/Grayscale or Grayscale in the printer software, some color ink is still being used. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged.
PGBK ink is intended for uses like text, it`s smudge resistant and good for fine lines. BK ink is intended for photographs, it`s richer. The printer defaults to PGBK for text, lines etc – unless it thinks they are part of a photo.
Definition: PGBK

It holds dye-based black ink that is designed to last longer and retain its color longer when printed on coated photo paper. See inkjet cartridge. Page Black and Black. Used for regular document printing, the page black ink cartridge (PGBK) has twice the capacity of photo black (BK).

Reach for the blue ink pen! Banks prefer blue because it`s easier to verify that the signature is legitimate and the documents are original when they`re signed in blue ink.
Ink cartridges can dry out if they are sitting idle in your printer for an extended period of time. The best way to prevent an ink cartridge from drying out is by running a small print job every week, this keeps your cartridge primed.
When a color ink cartridge is expended, you can temporarily continue printing from your computer using black ink. Replace the expended color cartridge as soon as possible for future printing.
Press the home button, if necessary. Press the left or right arrow button to select Maintenance > Reset Ink Level. Press the start button, the OK button twice, and then the start button again. Press the right or left arrow button to highlight the ink tank you refilled and press the OK button to select it.
Epson does not recommend refilling or using 3rd party ink cartridges. Using these products will not void the product`s original warranty, however, if these 3rd party products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible. See the following section to continue printing temporarily with black ink.
Another factor that could be affecting your colour ink consumption is the amount of printing from a computer, even if the print jobs are black only. Because this machine offers full colour printing, the default setting in the print driver is COLOUR.
Your product comes with Matte Black and Photo Black ink cartridges. Although both cartridges must be installed for your product to work, it can print using only one type of black ink at a time.
From the Control Panel, select Printers and Devices and then Printers. Go to Quality Option and then check the box on Grayscale. Click on OK to set printing to Black & White.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible.
