your pickup roller is dirty and the printer can`t grab a piece of paper. it will say paper jam when it does this. get a drop of dishsoap and clean the pickup roller of your printer with this. scrape at it with your fingernail to get the roller clean and wipe it off with a damp washcloth.
Dust, dirt, or debris: Not cleaning the HP Printer can also result in a paper jam error. So, if you find that no paper is stuck but a paper jam error showing, you must check for the dirt or dust on the device.
Step one: Perform a power reset

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least 15 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

If the paper is even slightly askew, the rollers will pick it up a little crooked, and — guess what — the crooked sheet will immediately get jammed. So even though there`s no paper stuck when you start printing, the loose paper guides are ensuring that a sheet gets jammed whenever the printer starts doing its thing.
Contrary to its name, there is nothing supernatural or spooky about a ghost jam. Instead, ghost jamming refers to an issue whereby the copier reports a paper jam even though there is no paper being physically jammed within the copier. Such an occurrence is also known as a fake jam or a false jam.
Volatile memory requires power to store the information. Deleting volatile memory is easy: Simply shut down or unplug your printer for a minute or so. Most printers also have non-volatile memory (a hard drive) that is stored until you physically delete it.

Carriage Jam won't Clear
ANSWER : I’ve had quite a few where all it was,was a crumpled sheet of paper that was preventing the carriage from sliding all the way to the right. Other thing would be taking a paper towel dampened with Window Cleaner and reaching in and carefully sliding it back and forth on the optical strip that runs through the back of the carriage assy. don’t pull on it or it will come off, just drape the towel over it and gently slide it back and forth to clean the ink off of it that prevents the photosensor from reading its position.

Paper Jam error but no paper jam
ANSWER : Obviously you didn’t get all the paper cleared out. There is a small scrap in the paper path causing the jam when the paper hits it. You can try clearing it out by inserting something stiff like a piece of file folder from the back of the printer into the paper path and pushing the offending piece out that way.
