Does my product automatically switch between the Matte Black and the Photo Black ink cartridge when I change the media selection in the driver to a matte or photo ink media type? Yes, the printer will automatically switch to the correct black ink. You can also switch the black ink type manually. See below.
A regular black ink cartridge uses pigment based ink, and is typically used to print black and white text. A photo black ink cartridge is designed specifically for photo printing. It uses a dye based ink, which helps produce more defined shades of black when printing a photo.
Go to Control panel and then Devices and Printers. Find and right-click on your printer and click on Printing Preferences. Go to Quick Setup tab and then select Grayscale. Select Plain Paper as your media type option.
The difference between the photo black ink and the egular black ink is the photo black ink is the bigger cartridge slot and the regular is used for the text. I usually get both because if you run out of the regular small black ink cartridge for printing text you can still print out black ink using the photo black ink.
Matte Black (MK) ink produces better black ink density on these paper types than Photo Black (PK) ink. See the link below for a list of Matte Black ink and Photo Black ink media types. You need to switch the black ink type only if you disabled automatic black ink switching.
Your product comes with Matte Black and Photo Black ink cartridges. Although both cartridges must be installed for your product to work, it can print using only one type of black ink at a time.
The printer will not operate if a black ink cartridge is expended or any cartridge is removed. If a color cartridge is expended, you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink. It`s best to always have extra cartridges on hand.
Even if you select Black/Grayscale or Grayscale in the printer software, some color ink is still being used. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged.
The quick answer is: Yes, you can (if you own a printer model that allows it) — but you shouldn`t keep printing with an empty cartridge for too long. Why? Because running on an empty cartridge for too long can cause your printhead to overheat resulting in irreversible printer damage.
Check you have the latest drivers installed for your printer, try uninstalling and reinstalling your printer drivers or try changing the driver settings (adjusting the paper settings has been known to solve the problem). Fully Reconfigure the Printer – If all else fails, you can try entirely reconfiguring your printer.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible. See the following section to continue printing temporarily with black ink.
If using the color cartridge, colors print normally but black prints lighter than usual. You can continue to print until print quality becomes unacceptable.
Special inks are not normally required for printing on these media. Glossy papers can suffer from `bronzing` when prints are made with pigment inks. This indicates the ink is unevenly deposited and/or absorbed by the paper. Viewed from a shallow angle, bronzing produces a greenish bronze tone.
Kindly go to Start > Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Printer > select Run Troubleshooter. You may also check the print settings to ensure that the option for black and white/grayscale is not selected.
Pigment ink is found in top-end photo printers, capable of high-quality output onto a variety of media. It also has durable output as pigment inks don`t smudge and are lightfast- ideal for photos that will be on display.
Modern black inks in marking pens are usually mixtures of a variety of colored pigments mixed with different liquids.
EPSON recommends using plain photocopy or bond papers for your everyday printing. For digital photos that look and feel like traditional photos, choose one of the EPSON Premium Photo papers.
The ink levels may be low and you may need to refill the ink. Visually check the ink levels. Also make sure you filled the tanks with the correct colors of ink. After you print, the colors in your printout need time to set as the ink dries.
Click the start menu and search for `Devices and Printers`. Select devices and printers in the search bar. This will allow you to see the printers connected to the computer. Click the printer you want to check, and you`ll see the ink levels at the bottom of the devices and printers section.
If your Epson printer is printing out faint images, skipping lines, or is streaking your image with lines, chances are you have a clogged nozzle–a common problem many users have with Epson printers. It`s unavoidable that print heads clog over time as small amounts of ink residue dry up and collect in the nozzles.
Go to “Paper / quality” tab and make sure “Black & White” option is selected. Now click on “Advanced” button – check for “Print in grayscale” option. Make sure it is turned on. Apply and save the settings.
Because this machine offers full color printing, the default setting in the print driver is COLOR. This means the machine will automatically mix ALL the colors to produce a selected color, even black.
A typical ink cartridge will yield 250 to 300 pages depending on the color density of the prints. The yield of a typical toner cartridge in a laser printer is between 2,500 and 3,000 pages. Some larger laser printers can even have toners that will yield up to 30,000 pages!
One of the worst ways to damage your printer is to leave an empty ink cartridge sitting in it, or to allow a cartridge to go dry while you`re printing. An empty cartridge can damage and clog a printer`s print heads.
