Canon printers use small, spongy pads to absorb excess ink that accumulates while printing and cleaning the print heads.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. ANSWER : There is no waste ink “tank”. There are some sponges and they usually are about 1/4 saturated when you get the message. If you want to go through the trouble to remove them, you can just wash them in hot water and dry them out as the ink is water soluble. Or, you can search the web for a waste tank reset procedure and not worry about it.
